Sort of. One difference is that I am not already paying those drivers. I am paying UPS to deliver the package -- which you would think means not beating the hell out of the package. (Any monkey could do that).

You would think but the process is not without fault. Shit happens and thats what it is for. If they were automatically assume responsibility and not force you to buy insurance then you would be paying to insure other peoples packages. Some millionaire ship and antiquity worth a couple thousand and it breaks then it will send a ripple of increased shipping prices under your scenario. Either way you look at it the money will come from somewhere besides UPS pockets. They aren't in the business of losing money. At least now, you choose to pay whether they should be liable. If you are sending socks why pay for insurance. If you send a $500 amp then insurance makes sense. If we didn't elect to pay insurance and they were just automatically liable then they would increase shipping rates across the board to make up for it.

However, expecting them to offer a $5 insurance on people stupidity in packing is just an absurd notion. There are a lot of stupid people out there in case you hadn't noticed. Shipping insurance like that would put them in red real quick. lol

No, I just can understand. Bottom line is that no company sets out to lose money and especially insurance companies. Insurance companies are like casinos. Sure they pay out big sometimes, but for the most part, the house wins.
