crazy idea

I have noticed that my down firing subs on my home audio system kick but over my powered sub that fires straight. With this in mind has anyone ever tried developing a sealed enclosure that down fires on to a solid surface such as MDF or solid oak? just a crazy, can not sleep idea.

I do not think it is neccesary with a car install due to the acoustics. You will get similar results by facing your box backwards or firing up. I would not fire down unless I had to, but yes it can work.

Cool, the only reason I ask is I enjoy feeling the base in my lower back and chest but the back of my head takes a real pounding... anything to reduce the air column around the top of my car would be a big help

Yes, the reason home audio people do it is to increase the "loading" of the subwoofer, to increase the output. Due to the tight confines of a vehicle, the subwoofer will be "loaded" no matter where it is placed inside the vehicle (we call this effect cabin gain //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif ). People do downfire in their vehicles; but it's more for functionality/cosmetic reasons.

Haha, untill I said F it, I was wondering if this box I made was very resonable. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
