Crappy output...?

Hey I bought a D612 and a 1000bd from 2 people on here.

Just hooked everything up to do a dry run before I run the cables neatly and the output was awful, regardless of gain or volume. Sloppy and not loud.

Only other sub I've owned was an L5 on a JBL 600.1 in a sealed box and it sounded WAY better both in loudness and clarity. And I know that can't be right. 1000 rockford fostgate watts to a diamond audio sub should sound better than ghetto watts to a kiddie boom sub.

I cranked the gains a little bit (not all the way of course) and the cone was moving ALOT, like 'freeair' alot. But not producing solid bass. Couldn't even hear it from inside the car. No leaks in the box. How can a great sub getting 1000watts sound worse than my Kicker eBay special?

The amp is very used and pretty beat up (buyer's remorse ftw), but as long as it powers on it shouldn't matter should it?

Thoughts?

PS- I'm out a grand for a system that sounds like ***. WTB cyanide capsule.

first of all a 1000 bucks is a ton for that setup, and second the jbl isnt "ghetto watts" those are great amps- third what size is the box and such? ported or no??

A) 1000 including wiring head unit fronts and front amp.

B) Yeah I loved my 600.1, but I always heard that RF was a cut above and expected better.

C) Box in sig.

thanks //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

i would take the sub out, check the box for leaks and double check your wiring. if all that is ok then i add a couple pieces of 2x4's to take up about .2ft. you wouldn't think that a number that small could make a difference but it definitely can in my experience.

read the thread,he didnt say he spent 1000 bucks,he said he has 1000 watts...

lol actually I said both, so I can see the confusion!

But the 1000 bucks was for the whole system not just the sub/amp //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I'm gonna have to play with it a bit today after work before I jump to any conclusions. Double check connections and gain settings, etc.

The person I bought the amp from is telling me to use the "bass module" that he sent me to increase the output, but the "module" is just a phone jack with a cyllander on the end. Isn't that port supposed to be used for a bass boost knob? Wouldn't the "module" just be shorting it out to a predefined amount of bass boost?

Never liked the idea of artificial frequency boosting.

You'll have to go and buy the $40 knob then. It isn't just simply shorting it out. Crack it open and find out what's in it if you don't believe me. Then you'll just be stuck with a couple of resistors, a cracked plastic tube, stripped rj11 6p4c connector, and a few CC's of epoxy.

you dont need the bass knob if your HU has Sub control which I think yours does.

Make sure that adjustment is set on the HU correctly - with your gains set right it will pound even if set on zero

I have one set of RCAs from the HU. Probably should have run 2 sets I suppose ;P

I have a Kicker x2i on the way, which I found to be great for setting gains and xovers properly before the signal gets to the amp. All the sub boost is doing is boosting the gain, correct?

I messed with it for a couple of hours last night and I got it hitting harder now, its just a little sloppy. I think it will sound much better after some fine tuning.
