Covering door holes that are not flat...

2000 Ponitac Grand Prix: I have one large hole in each door (8" x 8") that is a not flat. It is cut out of a part of the door that kind of is a shelf. I cant put something flat over it to cover it and seal it. I need to use something that is bendable or malable. Of course its not perfectly round either or symetrical...so whatever I use has to be able to be bent multiple times or I have to use multiple peices.

Any suggestions? I was kind of thinking about some sort of wire mesh or thin tin...screwing it to door...then putting deadener over the top of it some deadener to cover it...but I'm not sure if deadener will really make an air tight seal. I havnet bought any deadener yet howeverI bought some plexiglass for the other holes but need to come up with something for this. .

Damping mat, if applied correctly will work for that. When you're sealing up your doors you don't really *NEED* and air tight seal, you just need to make sure the back wave is going to be isolated. So really if you're doing multiple layers you'll be more than fine if you dont' seal up the holes 100%.

There are holes in my doors that just CAN'T be sealed.... it's not going to happen.

If you're really that worried then make sure you put in barrier material... I can't remember what SS's is called anymore...

Someone also recommended roof flashing. Malable, cheap....

That might work.

My camera just died...otherwise I'd post a pic. I also am wondering what people do when they have a hole with a wire coming out of it... I suppose if I use flashing I can just poke a hole through, fish wire through and then silicone around wire/hole.

I gues if you wanted a short you could do that.... I personally wouldn't do that.

I can imagine roof flashing creating all sorts of rattles.
