I forgot to add, for those of you that voted, could you please provide an explanation? Thanks.
No. I'm not worried about the max. If I do get nailed with a fine it won't be max. I have a clean record and good grades in school. I doubt I'll get anything. I mean I guess its not ok for me not to know the law, but this law is so insignificant, I don't see the reason why they would make it a big deal.
I really don't see his reasoning for that. I mean I was no where near his cruiser or him for that matter. In fact, I hugged the left side of the lane. He acts like I ripped his door off or I caught him with my mirror or something. I already had a terrible day/night and I really didn't want to make it worse so I just kept my mouth shut other than stating I didn't know that particular law, and asking for his name.Yah sounds like the guy pulled you over to try and scare you or something. I've never had an officer that treated me like crap, I'm almost waiting for the day when I get one. Hope everything turns out alright for you, sounds like filing a complaint would be a good thing to do.
just goSchedule for court and then reschedule it like 5 days before. Chances are he's already taken time off, and won't take time off for the second time. If he does, plead your case to the judge and tell him your side of the story, you might not be able to get out of the fine because it is a real law, but you can definitely get out of the points on your license if you play it off right.
Did you not read my last posts? I saw him there, I didn't hit him or even come close to him. I'm not going to cause an accident by slamming on my brakes or cutting someone off. So it's a law I broke without knowing it. I don't know about you, but I stay off my cell phone, and since my truck has a shitty system, its never on. I was fully aware and not preoccupied, or drunk or high. I find it hard to believe under those circumstances that I should be nailed with a big *** fine. Especially with my perfect record. If you had to stand next to the highway while cars pass you at 70 mph just inches away while you try to write a ticket, you'd understand why it's not insignificant. Most localities have some version of the law, which states that if you see a law enforcement car on the side of the road with it's lights flashing, you have to merge to the next lane before you pass it. In most cases, if you can't change lanes, you have to slow significantly.
A lot of officers are killed or injured every year by drivers who are preoccupied and just drift over and strike the officer. And yes, I knew one who was killed that way.
The judge won't accept a plea of ignorance of the law. That could be a very expensive ticket, and it'll go on your record if they find against you. Good luck.
Could be any number of reasons I suppose, maybe someone else did it and he thought it was you, could be anything though... I'm not saying you did anything wrong or anything like that.I really don't see his reasoning for that. I mean I was no where near his cruiser or him for that matter. Well now that I know this law exists, I'll admit I was wrong right now. I even asked my friend right after he left the scene and he said "I didn't know that either". I wonder how many people my age know that law?Could be any number of reasons I suppose, maybe someone else did it and he thought it was you, could be anything though... Well sure the judge can do that, but I'm sure he'll understand my point of view. The written apology is a good idea in my opinion. That cop had no right to talk to me the way he did. I didn't do anything that would have hurt anyone. And as a tax payer, I refuse to be degraded by someone who doesn't deserve a badge. The judge could very easily say, "well now you know" and still give you a fine. Could go either way. The written apology thing is a little risky, I see where you're coming from, but they just may not care. Because technically it is a law and you did break it, so they might give you the "live and learn" speech
