And why would you want so much BL force? A 3hp already has a good amount, multiplying that by 6x would seem to easily surpass the point of necessity. You can have too much BL force too. T'S specs are in a delicate balance.

figured i would come back to this...

its hard to build a sub using that motor that will sound good, but it can be done... just gotta tweek the suspenson

and there is a reason these motors were only Proto's

I read a while back that the 12-spoke limits excursion to 34mm. I dont know if its true, but that's what i remember reading a while ago.
My guess would be yes the soft parts are limiting the Fi drivers. Definitely not the basket.

its not so much the maximum clearance. 30mm is incredible if that is mechanically linear.. most of the time its not. Look at any old klippel graph, its very hard to make a linear spider past 20mm one way, it has to be huge!

speaker with higher xmax require larger spiders (or difference suspension all together) When MTX modified the old 4-spoke frame ( I believe one of the tools was originally from Russia), they did not expect woofers to move much beyond 2" at all (20 years ago, this made sense), which is why they designed it to have only an 8" spider. Today, designs are pushing beyond that, so new frames are needed. Its very expensive to make a proper frame. Tooling can be well beyond 5 digits.

also many woofers are not designed for high xmax, but rather high sensitivity so larger spiders and taller frames are not really needed. Its hard to say how many small-time mfr's would actually design their own frame if the expensive was not high, but i would venture to guess a lot less would be using that 1990's 12 spoke mtx thing if they didn't have to.
