Currently the sub is in a less than desirable enclosure. It is a 10" with only .37cu.ft. Some interior mods are forthcoming with a custom fiberglass enclosure to triple the cu.ft. Not sure I could critique the Pioneer amp powering it regardless but I will wait for judgement until the tech is done. I do however agree from what I know about Pioneer.Does the Pioneer amplifier live up to your expectations? That particular brand is the epitome of mass production.
The Polk Audio MM1040 needs .66 cubes after displacement, and that Pioneer amp is meh (regardless of model)...Currently the sub is in a less than desirable enclosure. It is a 10" with only .37cu.ft. I'm yet to see or hear any of it and I have no idea what the prices are.Not all Pioneer is made equally //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
What I'd do for a complete ODR setup...
Older Pioneer equipment was alright. Sony had some nice stuff at one point as well...I had a prs-x720 back in the day. I loved that amp.
The tech made some errors and slighly bs'd me about using one Tahoe rear door for the sub enclosure. This is not a field I am hands-on with and relied on another party for advice and install. I am very picky abouth the finish products asthetics. It was decided we would restore the rear door back to oem and use the rear quarter with a custom glassed enclosure. The Polk Audio MM1040 needs .66 cubes after displacement, and that Pioneer amp is meh (regardless of model)...
Some people feel that a watt is a watt. I don't agree with that.misfit138...I was led to believe that the sub amp would be lowest priority in my build budget and basically anything would work. I would enjoy your opinion on that if you would.
Once again jim you fail to surprise me. "people on this forum are dumb and only like spl, I am edgy and cool as I like pseudo high end home audio that my buddies on other "better" forums tell me to like!I wouldn't say that, it depends on what segment of the audio market you're targeting.
There are plenty of US companies hand-building electronics at a profit, but you're talking about very low production volumes, high markups, and not the kind of customer you're likely to find on a board like this. Milbert, Lunar, Decware, McIntosh, Cary Audio, Magneplanar, etc.
As for the quality of Chinese-made stuff, there are things I'd recommend, and things I'd avoid like the plague.
How much did you pay? By the way, that amp produces nowhere near 1,200 watts. The Pioneer amp is model GM-D8400M 1200w.
So you bash your way into civil thread for some personal banter and throw out nuggets of wisdom like this...I'm not impressed. To the op- waste your money on whatever you feel like. However, know you are very likely on a fools errand.
