Ok i did a search and couldn't find much.

What effects does having a convertible have on bass besides being easier to steal =/

I need a new car under 5k and i found a 1999 eclipse convert and 3 differant mustangs 1995-1998 all convertibles.

Wish i could find a hardtop but does having a convertible make it harder to achieve higher spl? Anybody have experience with this?

what type of box do you have?
I cant see that being the reason for your subs bottoming out.
well my convertible isnt a trunk car i have a geo tracker and just had a regular box 4 cubes sub up port back with a napalm 12 gains turned down and still bottomed out but wont bottom out in another car

I drive the truck in my avatar. Fully enclosed in the winter like an explorer/blazer ect., but summer it has no doors or top. It makes a HUGE difference. NO sound compared to top on. Granted, there's no trunk for the sound to bounce off of. This was with an L7 in a SMALL sealed box. Don't have the ported hooked up yet, so can't help there.

Also, dad's got a 300 watt bandpass box in his saab convert. Sounds good with the top down, definetely better than I would expect, but top up is still a very noticable difference. I'm guessing it's all in the box design.

All I can input on that.

vert's are horrible to get loud in. They have the acoustics of a baseball field //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

Luckily my vette I own now is a targa top convertable....Ive got it up to 150 db at 05 MECA world finals. But the other rag top vette I had could barely get over 140 on a good day //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

also, I highly suggest not doing infinate baffle on a convertable - I did that to my fiat bertone back in 1995 - it was loud with the targa on but with it off the two 15's sounded like poo

I'm guessing a vert has more metal behind the rear seat area to strengthen the car since it doesn't have a roof/glass to add to the structure.

Might be able to remove some of that metal and replace it with a simple X brace with strap iron. That could help a lot...

dumb question but Is there any type of hard top replacements for these cars?

I guess it just depends on the box build.. Im not a fan of back seats so i could always drop a 15" right in the middle of the back wall.

I don't wanna start cutting any holes and have the car split in half.
