Controlling rear car subwoofer from front of car?

Like how loud it is? Yes.

It's an RCA level controller that you put inline with your RCA's.

Something like this:

Ah, excellent, thank you //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Since those three dials in the photo I posted are not digital, I am assuming I put all three of them to their maximum level then use the RCA controller to control it instead?

Also, I'm guessing I'll only need a 2-port one instead of a 4-port one? Shame, I like the idea of controlling both frequency and gain with the 4-port one. The 2-port one only has one control.

No, that's the wrong way to do it.

What you do is first set the controller to maximum and hook it up.

Then set your amp up. The Bass Boost dial should be all the way off. It is garbage and shouldn't even be added to equipment.

You could use the style controller you added a picture of, but I wouldn't.

The purpose of the controller is to lower your subwoofer volume quickly from the front of the car if you need to, or to adjust the bass level depending on what song you're listening to.

I use it to turn my subs down when I go past cops or drive through neighborhoods

So to confirm, on the subwoofer itself:

  • Keep the Freq on high
  • Keep the Gain on high
  • Turn off Bass Boost

Buy a "bass level"-only RCA controller and set it to maximum; turn it down as required.

That correct? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Yes, except the gain dial shouldn't be too high. The purpose of the gain dial is to match your headunit's output signal voltage. If your gain is too high, it can cause "clipping"

Clipping is basically the squaring off of a sine wave when your amplifier exceeds it's maximum clean output power. You can do more research on the subject if you'd like.

Clipping is often the cause of broken subs and amps. It causes both to heat up, in simple terms

I'll set Gain to around 70%, then.

Thank you for all your help //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
