connecting new stereo to existing aftermarket stereo connections (please help!)

hi, i'm having some trouble installing my new pioneer car stereo. I have disassembled my old car stereo, which was an aftermarket stereo also pioneer, and now I just have to connect up the new one. The problem I am having is that I don't exactly understand how to connect the new (coloured wires) to the coloured wires of the old aftermarket stereo.

If it was the factory car stereo and i wanted to connect my new one i understand how to do that, you buy a harness and clip it into the factory adapter and connect the wires together from the harness to the new stereo wires.

Can you buy a harness that will attach into my old aftermarket stereo adapter?

Anyway does anybody know how to connect my new stereo up?

many thanks!!!

Follow the color code , yellow batt , red batt, black ground , grey -grey positive speaker , purple purple speaker , white white speaker , green green speaker , blue solid power ant. , blue w/ white stripe amp turn on its simple dont use the orange you dont need it, all done

Whoever installed the old radio did not use a pre built harness to connect the head unit to the factory wiring. Instead, they used crimp on pins and inserted them directly into the factory plug (the white one).

If those are solid enough, you can just cut the old aftermarket wiring and make your connections to those wires or you can unplug all those individual wires from the factory plug and use a typical aftermarket conversion harness.

^good catch.

go to a local store and buy the correct wire harness adapter for your vehicle. you can look it up yourself at metra-online.com.

do not reuse the wiring the previous installer did. remove the black harness and the wiring that plugs into the white harness. spend $10 and get a proper adapter harness. then you match up the wires with the new harness and the head unit.
