Connecting an ipod to a Poineer 880prs

i just bought this head unit and so far it has been fantastic. it has incrediblly extensive and effective sound shaping tools, navigation and general operation is very intuitive, and it looks fabulous.

one thing though. i haven't figured out how i'm going to go about connecting my ipod to it yet.

i know pioneer has the ipod adapter for this head unit, but i've heard mixed reviews about the ipod navigation and display for the 880prs. so... i've got two options for the ipod connection.

option 1: buy the official adapter and put the ipod in the glove box while i control it from the head unit.

option 2: buy an IP-BUS to RCA adapter cord, mount the ipod along side the head unit, and use the ipod's headphone out to connect to the aux input of the headunit and control the ipod using it's own navigation.

i'd almost like option 2 more, just for the control, but here's what i'm wondering...would option 2 sound worse than option 1?

I've used both options. I'm currently using Option 1, and option 2 was used on my Nak CD400.

Sound wise, the IP bus is going to win because it will be a digital signal, instead of an analog coming from the headphone jack.

okay, using a rating between 1 and 10, 10 being just as good as the ipod's own navigation, how would you rate the ipod navigation of the 880prs + adapter?

Ehhh, maybe a 6.5??

Scrolling through artists isn't bad but you can't scroll too fast because the iPod can't keep up, but it's not unbearable. The only thing I dont like, is when listening to songs to go back and select say a different album from the same artist you have to back through the entire list of artists to get back to what you wanted.

There are at least two in depth reviews of the Pioneer ipod adapter with the 880. One is in the review section, the other is in the head unit section.

put the ipod in your glove box... probably a great spot so no one can see it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif and also the ipod gets charged that way atleast on my adaptor... so it is not seen by possible thiefs and it is not taking up space

I would give it an 8 compared to the ipod itself. The only thing it lacks is the speed, but you can still scroll at the same speed, it just takes a second to a second and a half to display the text, but you can scroll through 50 artists in probably 3 seconds. And you can back out of the menus if you decide you want a different artist or different album, etc. It basically functions the same as the ipod.
