MECA calls it "reality SPL" the mic location is 26" up from the floor of your driver side seat, exactly where your head would be if you were driving the vehicle. This gives the exact amount of sound pressure you would be experiencing in the vehicle. This mic position is usually 3-4 db lower than your dash legal SPL, and 5-6 db lower than your outlaw kickpanel score. MECA has what I feel is the toughest meter in the world, the Linear X doesn't play a bit... Going by what I was doing on a teammates Kriss meter, and compared to the people there who also do drag... the meter was down several... several Db from an AC, or termlab meter.. alas the appearing low score //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

the concept of reality spl is great.....why measure at a location that you're not going to be hearing the bass from? i mean, honestly, how many people do you see driving down the road with their head on the dash?

i also like this mic quatro thing. it's a very interesting and seemingly accurate way of measuring spl. i've been doing a similar thing with all my spl readings since i got into competition. to get my score, i usually take one at the windshield or dash, one on the driver seat and one in the floorboard then average the three, rather than just grabbing the high one and running with it.

i did a little experiment with my friend luke's car earlier yesterday. he was doing a consistant 139.2 on the dash. we clipped the mic to the side of the seat and put it right about where the driver's right ear would be. he was only doing 135.1 there. that's more than 4 db's lost due to mic placement!

bingo.... that's the exact reason I focus on Reality SPL... and probably why I've won the World Championship two times now... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif I love reality.. even though the score looks gay... all it takes is one burp in the car to change a mind.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
