Confused with Wiring this system

So my friend was installing a system and had some trouble wiring the amps and subs.

There are 2 SVC 4 Ohm subs that are running in series to make an 8 ohm load inside of the prefab box. The person he was installing for has a 2 channel amp. He bridged the subs to the 2 channel amp and its playing alright, but I'm just wondering if this is stable and safe.

I know another alternative would be running parallel so each sub has its own channel, but there is only one terminal in the box, which makes this difficult.

Any help would be appreciated. thanks

What amp?

What subs?

We can't help much without knowing that.

... and you can always forget about the terminal and just drill a hole in the box and run new wires through. Terminal doesn't do anything but make it look pretty and easy to take in and out. So, that should be the very last thing you need to be concerned about. Oh, and there's no way to get 8 ohms on 2 SVC 4ohm subs to one terminal block. maybe you mean the box has 2 terminals with the sub wired in series to each terminal. So, it's possible he has wired the amp in 4ohms mono.

Draw something up in MSPaint (or Gimp for the cool people) if you don't know all the right terms and what all that means.

explain to me how there is no way to get 8 ohms on 2 SVC 4 ohm subs to one terminal block... cause trust me there is noting special about doing that

maybe he thought they were DVC....

I know a good amount about subs/amps, but i'm not too sure about this. Maybe this will make it more clear.

The girl that he was installing for has 2 Sony 12s with a 2 channel Sony Amp.. I know ghetto stuff but whatever.

Subs are SVC 4 and running series, to make an 8 ohm load. The subs are being BRIDGED to the amp, where the amp should be running @ 4 ohm load. I am wondering if running an 8 ohm load to the preferred 4 ohm load will just make the power from the amp decrease in half, or if it is unstable.

I think he should just run parallel so each sub has its own channel. Therefore, the subs would be wired to 4 ohms in each channel getting whatever power the amp does

So here we have an issue of ifs //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif. If the amp theoretically doubles its power bridged @4ohms and your running 2 4 ohms at it wired in series for 8 ohms and the amp theoretically puts out half power at @8 ohms vs @4 ohms than your back at the same output it would make 2 channel @4ohms. In other words this amp theoretically will run stable and put out the same amount of output mono at @8 ohms as it will 2 channel @4ohms. If the subs are sharing the same space in the box (not in separate chambers) I would definitely leave it as now bridged into 8 ohms. Have your friend pick himself up a 2 ohm class D Sub amp, if he wants more power they are cheap (I got a Alpine MRP M350 400watts at 2 ohm for $60 shipped) and there are many stronger out here for good prices also. Wire them in parallel to it for a 2 ohm load. Just an old man 3 cents on it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

If he leaves it bridged (mono) at 8 ohm then he's losing even more of that sony THD quality //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif then running it stereo. Also amp will draw more current and make it Hotter and Xplode before it normally would //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif:laugh:.....Run the amp 4 ohm stereo..

If he runs them parallel it will be be one channel for both at 2 ohms. You mean just run one to each channel for for the 4 ohm load? Is the amp 2 ohm stable? if not I would say wire each sub to each channel. It would be better then running 8 ohms in series.

This is completely false and misleading information //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif I think you should learn a bit about the operation of amps //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

lol yea its my friends girlfriend so i dont think she cares if its that loud or anything.

thanks for the suggestion on the alpine f350. my bro had that, but now has 600. I just dont want my friend to be responsible for ruining her system or catching a fire lol.
