confused on voice coils/ohms

So... I don't know if I'm going to make any sense here, and this has probably been brought up a lot I would assume, but I didn't even begin to know how to search for it.. anyways..

So If I'm using a sub that has dual 2-ohm voice coils, and an amp that can run at either 2-ohms or 1-ohm, how would I wire it?? Would the voice coils run in parallel(?) so that sub would run at 1-ohm?? or.... And you can run 2 subs off a mono amp correct? Like could I run 2 RE XXX D2's off an Orion 2500D?

if its a D2 u can run it off a 1ohm amp. If u wanna run 2 subs off a 1ohm amp they need to be D4 subs...
