if there are two speakers/subs with identical specs, what effect will the cone size have on the sound? sorry if this is a really stupid question, i have some ideas about what it does but nobody has really come out and said (that i have seen, im sure it has been done) and i dont have the money to go around buying up different speakers to see what effects it has. thanks for any info you have!

more cone area technically means more sound

does that still hold true if the sensitivity is the same for both. if it is then doesnt that mean that the smaller sub is moving the same amount of air as the larger per watt?

If you can find me two drivers with identical specs but different Sd, I owe you some money. Because Sd is one of the five main parameters from which all Thiele/Small parameters are calculated, it is very hard to change Sd without having an impact on other aspects.

In the event you were able to do so, the only real change would be the amount of linear displacement the driver is capable of (given by Sd * 2(Xmax)). In simple terms, you would see more output.

so, are you saying that i would have more output from the larger cone?

Technically, yes, your efficiency would be higher (more output with a given input) and your maximum output would be higher as well.
