in meca i know at the comps they rate the kicker L7 12's at 250 for a pair of them.

a pair of regular 12's is 226 so the L7's have 24sq more for 2 of them

all im trying to find out is the cone area for a pair of kicker L7 15's as meca says they are as thats were i will compete, trying to stay in amature 3 with my new setup, i know i can safly play my amps all day long on 80 amps a fusing a piece and i have 2 amps so thats a score of 1600 right there and 400 for cone area would put me at the max for amature 3.

i could always just lower the fusing to 70 per amp for a total of 140 and be well below, bt just looking for cone area.

also each of my amps uses 2 fuses so each amp right now has 2 40 amp fuses which i know last longer then 1 80 amp fuse

hey whats up u going to the show this 20th@ the grove //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

2 round 15" subs would = 353, IF the cones were 15". They're not. The entire sub is 15" overall. You asked about the cone area. The overall measurement includes the mounting ring and the surround, that isn't the cone. Figure at least an inch for the surround, so take away 2" right there and then 1/2" for the mounting ring, so take away another inch. So your actual cone will probably be about 12" square.

So, 2 15" L7s would roughly be 288 inches^2.

2 round 15"s would roughly be 226 inches^2.

I just measured the cone on the 12L7 sitting beside me. It is 8.5", so the 12" cone I figured on the 15L7 is being VERY generous. It's probably more like 11".

So, my 2 12L7s cone area = 144.5 inches^2

2 15L7s cone area probably = 242 inches^2

You should've taken our initial guesses. It kinda sux when you sit down and get the true figures, huh?

For reference, I also have 2 round 12" subs here. Those cones are also 8.5". Their cone area combined would be 113.5 inches^2. So, Kicker's claim that the L7s cone area is roughly 1/3 larger than their round counterparts are pretty accurate. Not exact, but close enough.

i see what you are saying but that is not what i was asking for. i was asking what MECA says they are.

MECA states 2 regular 12's are 226sq inches and 2 12inch L7's are 250.

so now back to the "origianl question" what does MECA say that the kicker L7 15's are?

Based on the figures you listed, MECA would say 2 15L7s are 450 inches^2. MECA is calculating every sub at it's listed sub. As in a 12 = 12", a 15 = 15" and so on. So, a square 15" L7s cone would be 15x15 = 225. A 15" round sub's cone would be 7.5^2 x 3.14 (pi*r^2) = 176.6. Not an accurate way at all to measure cone area, but whatever. At least your ratios will be fairly accurate.
