Concern with new speakers

Feel free to move this post if it isn't in the right spot. I had just bought a pair of Infinity Kappa 693.5i 6"x9" speakers for my 99' Grand Prix. My concern being that they may not have enough power, as I don't have an amp, and do have a stock HU. What kind of amp with how much wattage would I need for these speakers alone? (I don't plan on buying subs, but I do plan on buying 5 1/4" and a HU) Any help/suggestions are appreciated, thanks!

peace. the rms on these state 110watts. again, i always run my drivers with at least 50% additional power (@150watts). however, i drive my sets aggressively loud and the additional power provides for that headroom.

i'm sure that a soundstream 400.2 (100wx2) would be great. you would probably do just fine with less, given the kappas' high sensitivity. i have the 400.2 driving my highs alone, and it is very clean power with no distortion. these van goghs are reportedly the last soundstream amps made in the u.s. and they are out of production. you can still buy them online at spots like ebay though for around 135.00. i havn't found a quality amp for these prices. that's why i went with ss for my whole system. just an opinion though.

had a beemer w/alpine hu, eq, and 6x9 waayy back in the day. speakers played fine with high output hu. threw the small amp and eq on them and i was the man in the school parking lot (circa 1992) //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif . so although i'm sure a good h.u would sound nice alone, i believe an amp's addition would make a significant improvement. also, if you are planning on including those 5.25's, you may want to consider a 4way amp (if you decide to include an amp at all).

What about just an amp without a new hu?
It would still yield the same results of having and HU and an Amp. Once you run the amp you cut out all power from the HU, so it may be slightly worse, but for 95% of people you won't notice a huge difference.

Okay that makes sense, I've got one last question. Would those two amps that you linked me to be sufficient if I were to buy a new set of 5 1/4" for my side panels? Other then that I don't think theres anything that I would buy besides maybe a new HU.

Yep, they'd be perfect. They are 4ch amps so they would be able to run 4 speakers just fine. Good luck.
