Computer troubles, try this one out.....

Should fix any corrupt downloads giving you BlueScreen' date=' MSCONFIG is just a way of turning Trojans, & Programs you don't want..Also, It will stop AIM, Yahoo, from opening when your computer turns on so it will be a nice & smooth ride[/quote']

ROFL!!!! you're joking right?

oh i see now
that sounds like a horrible idea livin loud //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
Hey man if you think so, I've been fooling with computers for about 7 years now, Mainly doing programming but if you think it's a bad idea don't do it.

No.But usually people are smart enough to make MSCONFIG close when you open it up so the Trojan doesn't Run on startup which is 99.9% of the time what they do.
This is the silliest attempt at giving good information I've seen in a while. All you are doing in msconfig is disabling items in HKLM\RUN - this is NOT the only startup point various viruses and malware use and it will NOT fix many bsods.

Yeah listen to DJ....

IF it is a hardware issue causing the blue screen it could be anything....

RAM, capacitors, bad sector on the hd.....pretty much anything

let him take a look at the dump file

Also, check event viewer and see what the Event ID is for the random shutdown, IF it is shutting down or restarting when the BSOD is happening. You could do a quick google search on the event ID and maybe see what MS says could be causing the problem.....but they are sometimes vague

yeah i emailed him a couple of the most recent dmp files, and he said he'd get back to me when he gets home //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/woot.gif.aaa6090e619a97b6090d16dd863c5a69.gif

i'll second the reinstall

random crashes can be caused by numerous things incuding bad ram or overheating. if you are getting corrupt files it could be a sign your hard drive is dying or sectors are bad on it

i'm sure you have all your important info backed up anyway(only a fool wouldnt these days) so a reinstall shouldn't take more than 30-45 minutes

As I said....reinstall windows with NTFS (NOT QUICK FORMAT)

Doing normal format checks for bad sectors/disk errors, and then installs Windows. You will be much happier that way.

MSconfig is for programs/files you no longer want starting up. I have like 3 that start with my computer...that's about it. Disabling all isn't the greatest idea...

I could give some more tips as to how to get rid of Spyware/adware/etc but I don't feel like it at the moment.

The only thing that I haven't seen mentioned yet is the power supply. What brand/model is it? If your voltage rails are drooping, bad things will happen.

You can try to check them with a dmm (dont trust software programs to give you accurate voltages), but if the psu is failing, the voltage drop will be random and you may not see it. I'm not saying you should go out and buy a new power supply, but if you have an extra, or can borrow one, see if the problem still occurs with a known good one.

X2, my PSU died, and I bought a cheap one to hold me over until I got a decent one that could handle all my accessories. If I were to put both optical drives, and hard drive, it would BSoD constantly. Took one optical drive off, and it didn't do it anymore.

check your email sir.

I'm unable to determine which driver is causing it for sure which driver is causing it. One of them has an IRQL that is too high and this tool should point out the culprit.

Start > RUN > cmd (press enter)

enter this command at the command line verifier.exe /all

let me know what the results are. Another method would be to just verify that all drivers & BIOS are up to date.
