Or how about you guys who been doing it for ##years post it here so everybody would know? Best way imo is to backup your files on a secondary hard drive, format, and be done with a clean new system. That's if you have a ridiculous amounts of spyware/adware and crap that are hard to remove.

Very few infections can not be cleaned with a little know how.

Reformatting is the last possible, and worst, fix you can do.

What makes you say that reformatting is the last, worst, fix you can do? It might take the longest, but I think its worth it if you're not that knowledgeable with the computer. Fixing spyware and viruses is a major pita and frustrating.

Honestly it depends on the person, a guy with a 4gb HD with nothing but windows and the net on his comp would prolly not mind the reformat, and the guy with a terabyte hd would.

If it's someone who uses a PC regularly and uses even a FEW apps, getting help removing spyware/viruses is MUCH easier than remembering everything to back up, remembering all of your specific program settings, knowing HOW to go through the reformat process, having fun with drivers (chances are the CD's are LONG gone), and all that fun stuff.

I told him what to do and to post back his hijack this log. He should be pretty close to clean by now. From the looks of his log, his infection is mediocre at best and slowness is due to something else.

Only thing I have against the PM's is maybe someone else is having the same trouble and was curious on the answer and didnt want to go through multilpe pm's to get it, just be able to read it on the forum.

But meh to each there own.
