Computer help?

I bought my brothers gaming pc. He has the 1st generation i7. MSI x58 platinum is the motherboard.

Anyways. I have installed OS before on many computers. But this 1 will not boot up. I put my copies of windows in and set the BIOS to boot from that. And it just keeps giving me a black screen with a / blinking.

We can't figure it out. We put the hard drive in his new computer and it still won't boot up. The hard drive is in RAW format and we deleted all of the partitions on it.

if its not reading the disk, i'd say look at the dvd drive.

Its possible booting from disc is disabled in BIOS.

Its enabled.

It has to DVD drives. I put a copies of vista in 1 and a copy of 7 in the other.

ANd put the copies on a usb flash drive and an external drive. And I tried each one for the boot sequence.

I might have to have my friend who went to school for this do it. He got it last time.

have you treid setting the primary boot device as one of the dvd drives? when going into the bios to change the boot up options, does it show the dvd drives?

these are SATA drives right? if not check the jumpers.....do this if the dvd drives have jumpers just remove them and try it that way...also right during the POST test look to see which key boots you into the BIOS, once in there check to see if the board is detecting all the drives attached to the mobo...also if they are IDE drives check the jumpers and cable select.

yes. We tried booting from all 4 different options as masters. We've been trying to figure this out for about 3 hours.

Yes. SATA drives. I will try the other tests tomorrow. Hopefully I can get it up and running! I am looking forward to having that hyper threading. much better than my 1.66 core 2 duo.

Your hitting Escape to choose boot device correct? Have a disc drive you can swap to test and verify if its the drive or the computer?

when the / is blinking it means u have an external hard drive hooked up and powered on turn off the external hard drive and boot again-
