Fancy a fondle, eh?
My roomates and I are living in a three bedroom house and the internet company wants to charge 300 dollars to put an internet connection in each room. If I get the DSL line ran to my room, is there any kind of wireless device I could use so they could use the same connection? If so, what is a good brand and how much will this cost? Will my computer always need to be on in order for them to use the net? Thanks in advance.

Use internet connection sharing, be it wireless or by Nic card. What company is this? They might try to stop you from sharing or using a router by MAC ID restricting, try it and see what happens. I wonder why Internet companies are trying to charge per line now instead of just paying for the connection. Actually I do know why.....GREED.

Get a linksys router/hub combo that has wireless built in, you will configure it with your user id and password then everybody else will get a dhcp address from the router and the provider won't know any better..

good luck,

T

That's actually exactly what I'm setting up in my apartment, in case I have friends over that need internet access, plus I just like to be able to work on my laptop anywhere, on my bed, on my couch, without having to drag network cables everywhere.

Let me ask you this. Will this connection be just strictly internet??? If so wireless is best. If yo will do games or if you music or video trust me the wireless connection at 54mps will NOT be a good choice. Its good for just internet sharing but for gaming it is out of the question. Bandwidth is key with games, and with the wireless not getting even the full 54mps it will be slow. Wired is at least 100mps. Or go spend a few more bucks for Gigabit and then you get 1Gbps. So, Get yourself a good 4 port lynksys wired router for 40 bucks at walmart of all places. Anything else is just stupid. Too many issues with other brands. except maybe netgear. That is just the opinion of a dude that is currently running a home network with the same setup as well as finishing up schooling for Network Engineer.

Yup, Wireless is shit for gaming ... Also, in some places, getting a good connection between the router and the wireless network card can be a bit of a pain in the *** ...
If at all possible, use a wired connection ...
yep, wireless, is shit compared to wires, all you have to do is run the wires and hide them, woopie, also you will save money too, just go to Bb or Cc for cat 5 ethernet cable, or go to lowes 70 ft was like 7 bucks, but you need a way to get the ends on
