250 a month is killing my soul, I washed dishes 30 hours a week at $5.25 to make that kind of dough, that was the year after I graduated college. Now I design furniture and am actually using my degree,

Tell your parents you need a new dell or you are gonna end up like some guy on the internet washing dishes with his college degree, that should scare them into it, plus they are only like 40 a month for a fast Dell if they woudl put it on their card then you can take your $210 you have left over and go buy whatever 14 years do with that kind of $$.

If you were to build a new system, what would be your max total budget?
250

Scoobydoo

all the slots are white..thers 2 free slots..4 in total...one has ethernet the other has a 56kmodem..i can take the 56k off and have 3 free if need be..

and yes the 250 if to buy everything i need..clothes..food..etc etc

Toasted1

when i read the specs for the vid card it said it needed 250watt power supply or larger..my current psu is only 140..

and no my parents wont help me out...they hate that im on the pc for hours at end so they def dont wanna hear bout me tryin to fix it lol

i would use the $10 to buy gum from the store and resell them in school for 25 cents a peice and the $10 would turn into $40 by the end of the week;)
i was always one of those kids attempting to trade w/e i could for gum balls or jaw breakers that kids went around selling like that.

sounds like you only have pci slots in that pc

if your budget is $250 i can build you a decent pc for that much

just saw this FS today for that much:

Shuttle D33032

3 Ghz p4

512 gb ram

120gb HD

MX 5900 128 MB VGA with DVI/s-video out

250W PSU ( also included backup 200w PSU was original still works)

LiteOn CDRW /Power cord/sata cords/ sata power connectors included.

that was just an example, if you are serious, pm me and i can help you out, i have a ton of references here and HERE

i would be building the pc and i would need money up front as i buy the parts, but i can build you a pc, probably with a dual core cpu, 1gb ram, 80gb hard drive for around the $250 range

this would be just the tower, you would need to use your old monitor, keyboard and mouse

I truly appreciate the help..but i actually wanna do this on my own so i can learn more about computers...its a learning experience

thats cool, it is pretty easy to build a computer
check out http://www.newegg.com

thats where i get 99% of my new parts, much better than tigerdirect imo
ok i'll look into new egg...question..about that video card u mentioned a brown slot..the slots are white..does that mean that card wont work with my mobo?

Edit...i appreciate the help...if only there were more people like yourself willing to go the extra route for members..

the white slots are pci

the brown slot is AGP

the agp card you listed will not work with your mobo if you dont have that brown slot(that sounds bad)

anyway, finding an upgraded card in PCI version wont do much anyway since your cpu will become the limiting factor, better off just leaving the video as is and saving the cash
