Computer Experts Enter (hdd issue)

Ok so my hd is failing..so i decided its time to upgrade some parts in my pc..its extremely old (compaq presario 5000t) from 2000

the specs are

Duron-900 CPU

128MB of SDRAM, 64KB L2 cache

Windows xp,

40GB hard drive

Compaq NVidia GeForce2 MX graphics card with 32MB of SDRAM,

i added 256mb of ram and plan to add another 256 to total out to 512 keep in mind that i rarely play games and this pc is only used for internet, music and videos... im gonna put in some pieces i wanted to know if they were compatible to use with this pc

Also can you guys recommend me a cheap sound card? the intergrated sound on my pc is slowly dying..my budget is only 250...and so far with all these parts i've spent 200.77 dollars(this includes shipping)

yes it is stupid to spend that much on that pc, it is worth about $50

im on extremely small budget..too young to work legally ..i get allowance once a month for 250 so saving up for a new pc is def not a option seeing as i use it everyday i would save if the pc was still extremely usable but its on its last limb and is gonna die anyday now

probably, open it up and make sure the top slot is brown in color, not white, that is an agp slot. that card isnt much better than the one you have and unless you need a new card for some reason it is a waste of money

no need to switch power supplies if the old one is ok, many oem from back then are proprietary anyway

any size IDE will work, look in the classies, i know i personally have an 80gb for sale much cheaper than that. keep it under 132gb partitions if you are running windows 98

it will wo0rk as long as you have enough pci slots after adding the card above

Well your PC probably does not have a AGP slot or a ATA drive setup and I have no clue why you are looking to upgrade your PS??!?!?!

That said the USB card should work.. Your parent won't help you out and get you a new PC even a cheapo dell with monitor an be had for a little over $400 PC's don't last forever you know.

Aren't you a spoiled mother ****er....

maybe his parents are the type to give him a larger allowance, but HE has to buy everything he needs like clothes, food, etc

my parents were the $10 week type, but paid for everything

don't go and upgrade to any of that stuff. What you need to do is go and buy a dell or something since you don't use it for anything heavy. Find someone who has a small business and get a dell vostro through them.

agreed, i would ask your parents if they would spring for a new dell.

they can get it on a payment plan for about $20-25 month and you could either pay them or they could take it from your allowance.

anything under a 1ghz P3 or AMD Athlon is pretty much useless these days for anything but slow web browsing

Check your local craigslist and you can find a single 1.8 for a hundred probably. All you need a is a new box bro you got moniter. Check local listings, peopel give away computers better than that all the time, you just goota go pick it up ussually.

Daymn. I would have been stoked as a kid to get that too.

i would use the $10 to buy gum from the store and resell them in school for 25 cents a peice and the $10 would turn into $40 by the end of the week

i never got allowance when i was a kid. yalls bastards man. after i got my first job and my very first pay check i went nuts. after then I'm more care full with my money and i cherish everything i own that has been bought with my earned money.
