I want a comp audio system for xmas for around $100 or less. I'd like it nice and loud esp. for college.

I'm thinking a 2.1 or 3.1 because anything more is a just going to be a pain when I take it with me

It would also be nice to have as few wires as possible considering ill be on a lap top.

can anyone post up some links to good stuff?

If you dont have any suggestions it would be nice if you could post up a site with good deals on good stuff..

thanks

When I was in the dorms, a couple of my neighbors had those things in that price range, they all unequivocally sounded like shit at higher volumes. If you want speakers for parties on the weekends, I'd really recommend getting a real integrated amp and speakers - $100 might be pushing it, but $300 is a very realistic budget, and will get you something you can use in the future as an office/bedroom setup.

Or just get a set of headphones if it's for personal listening. I'd take a pair of $100 headphones over one of those all-in-box computer audio setups any day, that's for sure. And headphones will keep you from annoying your roommate and getting on a first name basis with the RA //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Yeah that makes allot of sense but I'd still like one even for parties at my house right now.

I have a buddy who has a BOSE one with less power than the ones im looking at and its loud enough for what I'd need.

25+ watts on the sub

8+ watts on the speakers

It would just be nice to have even if it did **** in college

if you want loud on the cheap the only thing to do is get a receiver and some efficient towers, a cheap computer system isnt going to get too loud comparably

you could probably find a 2-5 channel receiver and some speakers for under $100 on craigslist

be careful using onboard laptop sound. The signal is garbage, blew out 2 tweets and a midrange on my towers when I had it hooked to my amp. Get a new soundcard, I believe creative has 2 for laptops... it will definately go a long way.

Yeah I saw those sound cards and I wasnt sure if its necessary but i guess so.

How hard would that be to install on a laptop

Try the X-Fi

you can pretty much leave it plugged into your speakers, and remove it when you take your laptop. It will definately give you better sound, and will really help with games. I had my computer hooked up to three ways, if you dont have three ways then you might not have to worry about it too much. They really arent hard to install at all, just slide it in and install the software.
