Computer and video guys please help

I purchased a unit called DVD Maker and it includes a hardware card and software to capture whatever video input. I think I paid 30-40 dollars. I converted some old VHS family video to DVD.

Cool, I think I may make vhs copies and use that to make them into DVDs, hows the quality? thanks

The VHS tapes I copied were from 8mm camcorder right down to old black and white with no sound sources recorded threw out the years.

It matched the quality of the 1985 and older camcorder no problem. I was very happy with the product for the price. I have a input on my video card with capture software but after upgrading to XP it stopped working //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Just so you don't loose any quality I would suggest going strait from Camcorder to Input on the computer. I actually have done exactly what you want with a JVC 820U I used to have. Just run the RCS or S-Video from the camcorder to the computer. Hit record on the computer and play on the camcorder.

I have a Sony Digital hi-8, im not really sure how to hook it up. I have the rca cables, can I use those? Do I hook it to the video card?

no. get a cheap 1394 card and a nice belikin 1394 cable. put the card in a pci slot. hook the 6 pin end of the cable to the 4 pin DV end of the cammy.

LOL nice no... so smart guy how do I record last nights episode of CSI: Miami from my TV with a firewire card. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
I'm teasing but no is inappropriate, my way works very well and also has other functions (so does firewire). My package also includes software to author and burn DVDs. Firewire is another option, I personally don’t have a firewire card and my bud who does (Funny he wanted to copy movies like me and got a firewire card instead of what I have) I don’t think he ever got things working right because he’s never shown me any home made DVD movies.

actually yeah nice cause i started my video with that set up. now i have avid, so i think i know what im talking about. dunno about hi8 though. not too experience in analog
