component system choices

Ok, I've narrowed it down to 3 sets:

MB Quart RSC216: $170

Focal 165H: $160

Infinity Kappa 60.5cs: $160

I got a chance to listen to the MB quarts recently, the tweeters seem a bit harsh to me.. Also, I don't know of any stores in my area that sell Focal component sets, but I've heard good things about them, so I'm wondering if they would be a good choice.

Which would you choose? Feel free to suggest a different set, but I'd like to stay below $200 if possible.

I know I should try to get a chance to listen to them all, but I would just like to hear a few people's honest opinions...

A friend of mine has the Kappas and I like them. Needless to say, they're a big improvement over the stock coaxials. I agree with you about the MB tweeters, I heard a pair at a local shop and they kinda rubbed me the wrong way. Never heard the Focals though, maybe someone else has. Good luck.

Well if you dont like the MB's, then drop those off the list. I'll suggest the Diamond Audio M561 component set, found for about ~$200.

Having heard both the Focals and the Infinity's(and the Diamonds)...its a tough choice between them. Both produce similar sound, but I was worried about the lower end of the Infinity's - the set I heard almost struggled with some lower frequencies.

Would a US Acoustics USX2150 (150 x 2 @ 4 ohms) be a good amp to power the M561's?

The recommended power range for that Diamond Audio set is between 20-170 watts, that amp would be a near perfect fit power-wise, wouldn't it?

well i listened to some alpine type r's, fosgate fanatic x, and bostons 2 and 3 way comp sets......by far i was most impressed w/ the type r's.....would recomend them to anyone now that i have heard them....also u might check out the Koda's from adire...peace,

I have always like the Infinity speakers. They seem to be a little flat until you give a good solid 35 watts or so. But most people are going to have that covered. That would be my choice. I have a set of 6 1/2 Kappas components to go into the doors of my Toyota Solara. Going to run 50 watts to them. Hopefully will sound nice.

They should sound fine:)

Eventually more power would be key :p

Would that be about right, or too much?
