Good morning all,

I'm planning on building another system to put in my 04 Standard Cab Tacoma so there is very little space.

Here is the setup that I have/will have in the near future:

Alpine cda-9887

Alpine MRP-f300 powering the speakers

Alpine MRP-M500 powering the subs

2 10idv3s

I know the 5.25s will sound better than the 5x7's but will the 5.25s be outpowered and drowned out by the 2 subs?

Subs will be ran with 500W x 1 at 2 Ohms.

Speakers can get 150W x 2 Bridged 4 Ohms.

Please keep in mind that the truck only has 2 speakers that are in the door.

Thanks in advanced!

I would make mdf rings and install 6.5 componets. If you are stuck on alpine the type-r sound decent. But for the price of them there are others that sound much better.

I would recommend to buy a good set of 6-1/2 component speakers. A lot of them come with a free adapter plate for 6x8 holes. For example, Alpine Type Rs, either 6-1/2 or 5-1/4 come with a plastic adapter play for 6x8 holes. I have used 6-1/2 Type Rs in 6x8 holes. The plastic plate looks flimsy, but I treated it with dynamat together with the surrounding area and it seems to work fine so far. Alpine Type R 6-1/2 would be a good choice. Type-X PRO would be much better. Other comparable speakers are Polk MM and Massive Audio CK6. If you insist on using coaxial speaker, then Type-R 6x8 coaxial speaker is probably hands down the best 6x8 coaxial speaker you can find out there, besides the boutique brands like ID. (Fine bass, 100watts RMS power handling, mellow tweeter). This is because, other brands do not make coaxial 6x8 versions of their higher end speakers.

As a side note, why would 5.25s sound better than 6x8s? It's a myth. 6x8 have more cone are than 5.25s or 6.5s, so with a 6x8 speaker you will get more bass up front which is a good thing. The only issue is that a lot of good speakers do not have 6x8 component version. For example Alpine Type R has component and coaxial versions for 6.5 and 5.25 holes, but if you have 6x8 holes, there is only a coaxial version (however, 6.5 and 5.25 have 6x8 adapter plates). If there was a 6x8 component version of Alpine Type R or Polk MM speakers or similar, I'd buy them in heartbeat.
