Component Set or deaden doors?

What would you do I drive a 98 full size chevy ex cab no rear speakers.

Option 1

Infinity Reference 2 way 6.5 shallow mount new in box.

I own these so no investment and I could put money toward deading the doors.

Option 2

Buying a set of 6.5 component speakers nothing to fancy $60-$90 no deadening

Both options will be amped but only 40w-50w rms

Chosen option will be semi permanent for awhile.

If it's semi-permanent just put in the speakers you already own. Sound deadening isn't temporary. Good vibration deadener is meant to stick for life. There's more to sound deadening than just vibration damper, and those materials are most commonly stuck on as well.

When I say semi perm i just mean its one or the other and it will be awhile before I open the doors back up.

Are the speakers in there the originals?

The speakers in it are going bad but I have a pair of older infinity reference shallow mount 2way speakers that are new in the box. I guess what i am really asking is should i spend money on deadening or component set.

I'd say spend the money on deadening. Without proper sealing/deadening the components aren't going to sound very great either. The infinity reference will probably sound pretty good on some power with PROPERLY deadened/sealed doors. Don't just slap on some dynamat or whatever, do it right and you'll be happy.

I agree with everyone else. The speakers you have are good enough. You are best off deadening, dampening, and sealing the doors. You won't have much if any improvement in sound until that is done anyways.

Diyma.com code:hfymf is having a 70% sale tomorrow and they have some OK sound deadener for 30.00 for 20 sqft. Be quick sale starts tomorrow and I would get 40 sqft for 60.00. If u miss out I got audio technix 40 sqft for 104.99 80 mil. I love that stuff. I did all four doors. Then driver and passenger side and still have 4 sheets left. About 8 sqft.

Thanks for the reminder but how would the diyma stuff compare the audio technix 60 mill stuff? after shipping the price is about the same even at 70% off.

Considering your options, I would deaden.

Now, if you had more money to invest in a better comp set, id say get a new comp set.

But considering you only have60 bucks for a comp set, a new set at that price won't make much of a difference, so deaden, you'll probably hear an improvement in what you have now.

Deadener first and install the speakers you already have. Worry about getting better components later.
