Component Questions

Hey fellas sorry dont know much about components and speakers, subs and amps are more my thing. ANYWAY, I have a few questions about component speakers:

Can you run 2-way components [tweet and ~4"mid-range] both in the A-pillar with nothing in the kicks/doors and still sound good?

Is it ok to mix brands if making components (1 brand tweet, 1 brand midbass, 1 brand mid range, 1 brand crossover; all different brands)?

Also, since i dont really have any experience with speakers, or crossovers with that matter i was told it'd be better to run a 2-way active system over a 3/2-way passive?

Correct me if im wrong but for passive it'd go from the Head Unit to the Amplifier then a wire from the Amp to the X-over, and the Xover splits the signal to all the speakers?

I really wanted to get 3-way that way i could throw the tweeter and the midrange in the A pillar and the midbass in the door. Is there any decent 3-way components for ~$120-130. I dont want anything godly i just wantted to find a 3-way that wont distort too much and give me some clarity.

I can't think of anymore questions now but i'm sure ill have a couple more soon. Thanks for the help guys i know you'll help me out.

no it will not sound good...u need the midrange...2 way active is better but only if u have a HU or amps that allow u to run it..active crossovers and shit, and they cost money...

better invest in a good 2way then a lousy 3way IMHO, the results are more satisfying, and the price range is just about...

not gonna recommend anything cuz i have different stuff here then u guys have overthere but at least ill put yizr querry to the top and someone else can help u out

so you think i'd be best to just run a good 2 way, with the mid range in the door and the tweeter in the a-pillar?

i was lookin at the Phoenix Gold RSd65cs or the Almani PCS-65c

what would be a solid budget amp to power either set?

i cant recommend shit, look at my location, i dont know the price tags there...and yes go with a good passive 2way, midbass in a deadened door and the tweet in the a pillar...most good 2way have swithes for both teh mid and the tweet but if ure looking to invest some more id go active...what do u have so far...HU, amps proc??

well i have a sub and amp setup, my current hu is a Panasonic 8301 i believe. i dont have an amp yet. i just finished the sub stage and wanted to work on the front stage. I think ima go with the RSd's for the components

I haven't heard the PG comps personally yet but they are highly recommended on a lot of the forums now. Give us a budget for the amp and it'll give us a better idea of what to recommend.

you think that'll push too much? the PG RSd's are only like 60rms/120peak and tht profile is pushin out 160rms @ 4ohm
Nope. Most reviews state that the PG's really come alive with the midbas when a clean 120-150w rms is sent to them.

In that price range check out Cadence TXA amps in the outlet store. The comps in the a-pillars will not sound good. With mids on axis in the a-pillar you will have beaming issues. If you want to run something in the pillars I would recommend a 4" or smaller. Some people have run domes there as well. People utilizing these kind of set-ups are generally running a 3-way front instead of a 2-way.

Mids in the doors and Tweeters in the a-pillars is your best beat unless you want to give kicks a try.IMO

if it was to say... put the RSd tweeters in the a-pillar and the midbass in the door. could i put some 4" domes in the a-pillar as well? what kind of crossover would i need, since i now have midbass, midrange, tweeter.

you could but you don't want to. the RSd's are built as a set. by adding a mid in not designed for the set, you're coloring the sound in a very bad way. stop worrying about the 4" midrange and having a 3 way setup. go with the RSd's if you like them. if you really want a 3 way setup then get one. but dont mix and match like you're trying to do to get a 3 way. get something predesigned.
