I just got a 2000 Chevy Silverado Ext Cab and will be installing my HU and comps soon. I already have the HU (Pionner 5800MP) and will bet getting 6.5 comps with amp soon.

Crutchfield says my stock speakers are 6.75"...there are a limited selection of comps for that size and I was wondering if 6.5's will fit with no speaker adapter needed. Or will I have to do some modifying.

I also need comps that will blow the stock system out of the water. I want a very noticable difference in SQ and loudness. My budget is $200. I will not be using a subwoofer, just the front stage. I listen to rock and rap.

Any input?

The best budget comps are probably the Phoenix Gold Rsd65cs, at $129:

You'll need an amp for those, there are many to choose from for under $100 that will power those. Here's a Profile 2-channel amp for $79:

You could get an amp with more power to allow for future upgrades, etc.

You'll also need to throw in an additional $30-$40 for a wiring kit. This brings the total to about $240-$250, a little over your budget I know. You can probably lower the price to under your $200 mark by shopping for second-hand stuff.

They are cheaper, sound very good (based on reviews on these boards), and free shipping.

Also, does woofersect.com still upgrade to the CL61's for free?

Okay, I've never heard them, so I don't know how they compare to the PG's. You said you won't be using a sub. So whichever comps you choose, they need to have good low end. The PG's have good mid bass, not sure about the lower bass.

Those CDT's have a higher RMS power specification, so you'll probably need a bigger amp than the one I listed.

Also, does woofersect.com still upgrade to the CL61's for free?

I've never listened to the Pioneer REV coaxials, so I can't say. But from what I've read around here, most people seem to think they would.

Also, something I neglected to mention, make sure you deaden your doors! Properly deadened doors will make any speaker sound much better!

This is what I've just narrowed my choices down to for my girlfriend's car. I'm about to throw a sub in there (on her amp from a previous install). She would be satisfied with even the stock fronts, but I want to at least slap some decent coaxials in there. I was actually thinking about trying the Revs on the head unit first, and then later getting a cheap Profile amp if necessary.

But then I got to considering the fact that I could get a decent component set (that would probably sound better... I guess?) for a little more. I'd hate to get the coaxials and change my mind later, but I know she would be satisfied with anything, so maybe I should just get the Rev's...

Any ideas about how the Rev's would sound compared to the CDTs?

Build a 0.3-0.5cf sealed box $20-50

...box would be so small you could easily stash it under the rear seat or something.

Use channels 1 and 2 for the comps, bridge 3+4 for the sub.

Unless you are going to do a three-way system with 8" in the door, you are dreaming... you will probably be disappointed.

The basis of all decent car systems is a biamped subwoofer/satellite system... get at least a four channel amp and use the rear channels for a sub.
