Completely Overwhelmed

Where do you live? I might be able to help out on the subs issue if you local, I can get a good deal on my AQ HDC12s with fresh recones and an enclosure. Might have to adjust your funds a little, but I can help you with finding an amp that fits in your remaining budget.

SA series subs can be had here for less: Used, B-Stock, Refurbished Amps, and MISC - SSA Car Audio Forum

Personally I'd buy used and get a bit more for the money on all fronts, but your call. Type of music doesn't matter so much. If you build it right anything you play on it will sound good.

Building a proper box will make more difference than equipment at that level. I was lazy with my last box build and had Home Depot do all my cuts.. not as nice as I'd have done, but saved me a few hours. Assembly required a jigsaw, screw gun, and some glue/screws/caulking.

I am in West Lafayette, Indiana. Home of the Purdue Boilermakers. Yeah, I don't expect anybody to be near this horrible place. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I am going to end up paying alot for a box eveb for prefab so I'd definitely be interested in working something out. Grand Prix trunk is pretty wide. I'll go grab some measurements and update this post.

Edit: Trunk is 46x18 LxW comes in about two inches to 16" wide in the corners.

Current box is 32x16x17 LxHxD

Don't even consider a prefab box. The enclosure will make or break your system. Keep in mind you're still gonna need probably $100 bucks for amp wiring kits... another $30 or so for the BIG 3 upgrade in 1/0, and another $100 or so for sound deadener for your trunk and doors.

Guys, I don't doubt your knowledge but what is so horrible about a prefab box? If you are looking for certain dimensions I dont understand what can be so different. I 100% believe that the boxes you guys make are superior but I understand nothing about woodworking or speaker enclosures so the chances of being able to make a box myself even to prefab "quality" is pretty much zero.

Sure I'd love the best sound, but I'm not going to be able to make anything professional.

They are generally poorly made, out of sub-par materials, and are not ported/tuned properly for anything. Best money you will spend on the whole project is a properly made box. Like I said, have home depot do your cuts and buy a jigsaw and drill, you're out the cost of a pre-fab, have a better box, and will have a couple new tools.

Keep in mind whatever your trunk measurements tell you will fit won't necessarily make it through the hole/angle into your trunk.

Ok guys I will see what I can do. As far as prefab, I was thinking something like a BS212v. It is 5/8 MDF 3/4 vinyl baffle, not that I understand what that means. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

You guys are too kind for helping such a newbie. Thank you all.

Don't go with a prefab, simple waste of funds to be honest. What year grand prix?

I can still get you a bit of a deal on a custom enclosure and/or the subs if your interested.

Edit..just seen it was a 99

If you can fit a 38.5 wide enclosure I have one already made for two Audioque HDC12s that would work well. It is loud and gets down low with ease.

If not, I can build you a custom enclosure for what ever sub(s) you decide to go with.

5/8" is rather skimpy unless well braced (which I'm confident it won't be)/

Pro rabbit I will be getting in touch with you probably around October. Already sold my JH45's. Gonna sell the box as well and probably the Audiobahn amp as well so I can put all those funds towards putting dynamat in the trunk. I will miss my bump but it wasnt gettin it done for me anymore. The wait will be worth it.
