Comments on Boston Acoustics GT series amplifiers

I am interested in what anyone can tell me about Boston Acoustics GT amps in particular the GT-50, 5 channel amp. I am buying a new style civic and I like the idea of one amp for speakers and sub, I also like the fact that the Boston amps can be mounted upside down. I want to mount it upside down under rear deck in the trunk. Really interested in sound quality (it should be great if their speakers are anything to go by). I would like to hear from anyone who has mounted one upside down like I plan to. I'm in Phoenix so I want to be sure it won't be a problem. Anyone know of magazine tests on these amps.

I heard that Mcintosh had a hand in their deveolpment. I don't think that's a bad resume' enhancer.

I also have to ask, while were on the subject, why more guys aren't using them. I am almost ready to install, and I have two GT-28's set for powering my system. I, like many, have heard the BA speakers. With the track record of their speakers, AND subs, why would their amps be any less capable??? Anyone have any bad experiences with these amps?

One of my dealers sells them... let me preface this by saying I am just passing along what he told me about them and I have not used them myself (as in testing one myself on the bench or owning one).

He says that it runs hot and that it is fairly anemic (low powered) for the cost, especially on the sub channel. It does rated power, but is a fairly low powered unit. Now, he has not had any problems from those amps, though, so they do seem to be quite reliable and he has sold several of them.

I did hear a customer install with one and it seemed to be at least a decent amp, it powered his components and entry level Boston sub as well as an amp of it's power rating should. If it fits your power needs it should do fine.

I don't mean for this to sound sarcastic, but if an amp does rated power, how is it anemic? To me, I feel that an amp rated to deliver a set amount of power should do just that, and ONLY that. For an amp to deliver 300W x 2 when it's rated for 75 x 2 means you will be buying a new set of speakers every few months. Unless you know what it will produce, and then I think it should openly state as much. An amp should not claim 100W x 2, but only deliver 25W x 2, either.

When you say "sub channel", are you referring to when it is wired to drive subs? Or, are you referring to the GT-50 that is a 5 channel w/ a dedicated sub channel?
