cold weather and subs

it seems like mine sound really punchy when its cold out. i don't know why though.
probably because colder air is denser. The more air the subs can push, the louder it is.

and also, because the out-of-box atmosphere is of a higher pressure, than the inside of the box, once the subs have warmed up.

just a thought.

EDIT: page 2 ownage.

I was waiting for this thread to come up, it does every year. I have had a system through out the winter since I was 16. (almost 10 years now) And have never had a problem. The only thing I am concerned about is the flexability of the surround and the spider. I just play it at low volume for a few minutes to "warm it up". You have to realize it's car audio equipment, made to be in a car, the manufactures take this into consideration I'm sure.

very good topic--i was sorta thinking about it the other day because it does make good sense that the cold weather could effect your system. Cold however contracts... warm expands--i forget who said that but it was the opposite of how they said it.. I think once you push some power through everything and you crank the heat up in your car until everything is toasty, then it should be ok to bump it a little..

Yeah, this topic does come up every year it seems. Let your subs and speakers warm up a little by playing them at low volumes for the first 10-15 minutes (maybe not even that long) and then you can let 'em rip. The amps sure do love colder weather, though, as it speeds up the heat disipation.

when its real cold out, my amp wont turn on for a good 20-30 minutes. dunno why that is because im too busy trying to get that d4mn heater on full blast and warm me up.
