CMX Kicks active - safe power/gain range for each mid and tweet?

So I got my CAL26's and my Profi Kicks uninstalled this weekend, and decided to replace them with a set of CMX Kicks. They are being run active with about 110-115w x4 direct from my amp.

I wanted to get opinions on how much power the CAL25's and the CMX Kick mids can handle in an active configuration. I've got the gain for the tweets turned down to about 1/4 of it's adjustability on the amp, and the gain for the Kick mids' gain setting is set to just under the 'nominal' setting on the amp.

Any recommendations? I'm thinking the Kick mids can probably easily handle 110-115w rms, and I also know that most tweets don't hardly need any real power at all to sound good.

And by the way, in my opinion, this set being run active sounds AWESOME! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

the kicks can handle more than 115 watts active. the tweeters should be fine with 25watts each. i felt that was too much when i had them. different car, different ears. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

why did yo go from cal 26's to 25's?
Honestly, in going back to the CAL25's, I can hear right away that I sacrificed top end detail for pure db output. The CAL25's still have decent detail, but they're just 'louder' to my ear than the CAL26's are. At this point in my listening tastes, I was looking for the 'louder' but still clean sound of the CAL25's.

I hope that makes sense. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Thanks man! I'll notch my mid gain up a little more, then. The tweets scream nicely at the 1/4 gain, so I'll leave them set there probably, just to be safe.

I wish I had known when I bought the 26's from you , I have a set of 25's that I am replacing with the 26's I am getting from you. well I guess the will get put on the detail of rear fill

Nah man, don't do that with them just yet! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

How much you wanting for those? Check your PM's.

Generally give the mid around 100w - 140 watts. Tweet 30-65 watts. Depends on how well you are at tuninga and recognizing the limits of each drivers. But those are my avg numbers for those drivers, You can tweek a bit depending on how well you want them to blend and sound.

Thanks for confirming for me, Aaron. I've got my CAL25's crossed at 3.2kHz, 18db/oct. Would they be ok to adjust up to 4.0kHz, or down to 2.5kHz? I seem to like them at 3.2, but if they can handle either frequency without issue, I'll play around with the settings a little more.

A higher pass filter setting for a tweeter isn't going to bother it. It's the lower pass filter setting you want to worry about. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Hopefully Aaron can confirm what the lowest frequency setting at what slope that can be used is.
