If it's for as long as five seconds - back it down. Please. Otherwise you'll be buying new subs sooner than you'd like.

It makes a difference in the overall life of a sub. Just like a car, if you drive it, abuse it, run the shit out of it, always gunning it? It won't last nearly as long as if you drove it carefully and kept up maintenance. If you don't address even the mild clipping, it'll cut back on the life of the subs.

First: I set my gains the simple way, I do the easiest first which is set the H/U to my max listening volume ( 30 on my Alpine, goes to 35 ) and turn gain till i hear bottoming out, etc. then back off enough to where that goes away, Then i let it play at that setting for a few minutes to see how hot the sub will get or wait for smells. Never blown a sub this way.

Second: To the guy that said gains should never be over 3/4, your again wrong, Gains depend on voltage both from electrical and pre-outs on the unit, how high you turn the bass boost up ( which i dont think you should ever do ) so like bubba said, you cant just throw some random number out.

OP: If you using stock deck which i think i read that you were, i suggest trying a line driver to get your pre-outs higher. Just search that and you'll see what im talking about.

When I'm Playing music my clipping light looks like a strobe light is that bad?
