Clipping

Is it bad if on my bass knob the red light comes on sometimes from my speakers clipping? It doesnt sound bad from my speakers..I thought it was just a distorted sound but nothing to really worry about..

it might not sound bad but internally its burning up the coils. tune your gains properly and you wont have to worry about it

okay well its been doing it for almost a week now..not a lot just some really hard bass hits..has it already damaged my speakers or do I just need to fix it now before it becomes a problem?

no, if it's just for those few brief moments it should be ok

might wanna pull subs out and do a coil reading with a dmm, id recommend turning your gain back abit, or if you have your bass eq set up high turn it down some.

and how would I do that? dont know much about amp settings.

a lot of you guys are saying clipping is bad ect... it's just extra power, and if the speakers are capable of handling that extra power they will be just fine, especially if it for that small amount of time.

okay..so im fine then as far as it clipping a little bit here and there..the gain on my amp isnt even turned up all the way either.

how power damages them is over time. Long periods of it will damage them.

i beleive theres a stickied thread on setting gains. do you have a dmm? if it only happens for short periods of time its prolly not a serious issue. but playing some really bass heavy tracks that cause it to clip often can be an issue.

correct. wires heat up and fry over time from clipping constantly, but if its for very short times shouldnt be a large issue.

okay thanks. 2 u and dbfan. all im saying is..when I play my tracks(mostly Decafs) sometimes certain notes when they hit it will make my speakers clip..but it doesnt do it a lot just certain times..its not like a constant red on the LED clipping light for 20+ seconds..the longest the red light has been constant is MAYBE 5 seconds.

want to know a cool trick, while that light is on slowly start lowering your low pass filter and watch it fade
