Just installed a new setup in my truck, and having some issues with clipping, and my amp going into protect.
My setup is a cheapo Pioneer headunit (1100 seried iirc), Memphis PR500 amp, and a Alpine Type R 12". Type R is a 2 ohm DVC, wired for 1 ohm.
When the volume is turned up, the door speakers (Pioneer 4-way 6x9, ran off the head unit) will start clipping. The sub still sounds fine and doesn't sound distorted, or sound like it is clipping, but the amp will then go into protect.
With the sub disconnected, the front speakers do not clip, no matter how loud I turn the head unit up.
Prior to the Alpine sub, I had a QLogic 4 ohm DVC sub, wired to 2 ohms. The door speakers would clip with that setup as well, but the amp would never go into protect.
The amp IS 1 ohm stable.
So my question is, why are the door speakers clipping, and what is making the amp go into protect?
