clipped song = ruined?

Yes, you can definitely fix it.

Clipping is nothing more than a single fundamental frequency overlayed with it's higher order harmonics. You can utilize Adobe Audition (or a similar program) to remove these higher order harmonics. Now whether this is easy to do or not will depend on the level of clipping, which harmonics are present, etc.

 
if you have just that single track, you can use a compressor to make it sound better, chances are you wont be able to get it to sound perfect, other than that you probably wont be able to

also...im assuming that the copy you have is just low bit rate, no self respecting producer would allow that to happen on a professional record
