Clear, Ballanced Stereo Setup

So Today I took all your advice and I purchased the Alpine CDA - 9887

I have the stock speakers currently in the CRV with no amp and no sub....Definitely nothing to talk about.

I am now planing to keep the stock speakers in the back of the car powered by the alpine head unit and then put some nice comps in the front as well as a sub and an amp

I was talking to the local dealer here and he said that you will get much better results from an amp that has 5 channels:

  • Having one channel dedicated for the sub
2 Separate Amps (one for the sub and the other for the mids/highs)

Than having a single 4 channel amp using channel 1 and 2 for the front and 3/4 bridged for the sub

Is this true? I don't need a very loud system and buying multiple amps/having 2-300 watts dedicated for a sub seems overkill for my needs.

In the end I want just a tight sub that just adds a little punch when needed and thats it...no monster bass at all

Would pushing 100 watts though a sub be too little?

i love 5 channel amps. You power each speaker separately and tune with your deck. I would do a 5channel, buy a dual 4 ohm sub so you can wire it to 2ohm and be done. Most 5 ch. do at least 300x1@2ohm

Can this be done on Stock battery w/o a Capacitor... once you start adding Caps and such it starts getting expensive

How much is a 5 Chan amp?

I'm on a budget for this system...I was hoping to spend in the ballpark of 450 for the rest of the setup.

I planned:

$150 on the amp

$150 on the sub and sealed enclosure

$150 on the front speakers

I already have an 8 gauge Monster cable kit (i did not buy it...somehow just ended up with it)

I was looking at the CDT cl-61tw speakers at Woofersetc, they come with the speaker cable

all i would need is to get hook up cables for the the sub and the HU to the amp

New at this...excuse me if I'm missing something

The ID comps are better than the CDT's from reviews I've heard.

I'd go ahead and do a good 4-channel amplifier - you won't need the extra headroom from two separate amps if you aren't looking for a big sound.

100 watts to a sub is a little low - aiming for around 200-300 is much better. The IDQ subs are an excellent buy there, which will match the comps, and it's an excellent sounding sub.

For a single four channel, though, you would want a dual 2 ohm, which would be wired in series to a 4 ohm load on the amp. That's due to the bridging of the rear channels, which the amp won't support a lower resistance load bridged.

5 channel amplifiers run rather expensive, and that will likely be a little ways out of your budget. Two separate amplifiers is also going to run you a good chunk more too, but those are typically less than a single 5 channel.
