Class D 800W @ 1ohm?

I've got a pair of 4ohm DVC subs that take 400W RMS each. At the moment I've got 500W @ 4 ohms (maybe, it' a Kenwood), so I'm content.

I was just wondering what amps are out there that do around 800@1 so I can keep my eyes peeled for a good deal.

Edit: ****, forgot to specify single channel in the thread title. Oh well.

Precision Power P1000.1 | Easy Way Electronics - Best bang for your buck, it's not too large, and it's capable of making more than 1,000W.
Thanks.

I might not have been clear. The subs are rated up to 400W RMS each and I've got the pair on 500 at the moment. That's a real nice deal on 1K, I just don't know how well they'd take an extra 100W each. I know PP makes an 850 in their Sedona line.

Thanks.

You would simply adjust the gain a bit lower. On music you're probably rarely going to reach 1k anyway.

What woofers are they?

edit: saw your sig.. they would be perfect on that ppi amp

Thanks.

On music the amplifier is not going to be making full power most of the time, unless it's bass boosted music. More headroom is a good thing.

Thanks for the info, guys. I've got to get some things in order before I upgrade the amp, like considering deadener first, probably upgrading to OFC (should've did that in the first place, hindsight's always 20/20), and making sure the 90 amp alt can support 1000W+ RMS total.

I do listen to a lot of bass heavy music like Dubstep and Decaf's mixes, which are boosted. I've got an O-Scope and DMM; if I got a 800-1000W amp could I use these to set the gain to a safe level for the subs?

On an unrelated note: why is Precision Power initialized PPI?

Use OFC power and ground wire, minimum 4 AWG. 1/0 AWG is better. Upgrade the battery-to-chassis ground and alternator-to-chassis ground, running both wires in addition to the factory grounds and connect them at the same spot on the chassis. I haven't been doing this, but you may want to run another ground wire to the chassis up front from your current amplifier ground location.

Unless it's a dual trace oscilloscope the best you can do is set up the amplifier for no clipping at maximum output. I wouldn't bother trying to dial it to XXX number of watts, because if you can't calculate the phase angle it's just VA you'll be calculating, which is not Watts.

Don't know, I've always known it to be PPI so I keep using it.

Back in the '90s the company was named Precision Power Inc. The company was sold to Directed (2001) then to Epsilon(2008) and somewhere along the way lost the "Inc".

Ph 1600 of vfl 1880
These look really nice as well. I see a couple new on eBay, but it looks like I can't buy direct from t manufacturer, I'd need to go through a dealer.

Awesome! Thanks for the backstory.

you could also wire to 4 ohm FWIW
That's true. That's how I've got them wired now on my Kenwood because I'm not positive it's one ohm stable. I've read about people having it at one ohm year-round and others having trouble with it.

The only reason I'm not looking for one that does 800@4 is it's probably going to be a much bigger, more expensive amp.

I've got an old school MRV-1507 that I got dirt cheap on CL. It does 900@4, but the reason it was dirt cheap is because it's broken (knew that buying it). It smoked as soon as I hooked it up, didn't even send it a turn on signal. Would it be cheaper trying to get this repaired?

Sorry for any errors, on mobile.

You can get the ab amps from me. I am the only authorized online dealer from them

I have a Rockford 600s if your still looking rated 600 read about clamps at 800+ missing end caps and is a bit scratched. 100 plus ship?

I've got some other, non-CA things I need to address at this time, but if I find myself looking I might hit you up. Thanks.
