Class AB vs D

From doing a little of my own research, IIRC, class D has very high power efficiency, while class AB uses somewhere between 50-100% of the input signal and reduces crossover distortion.

If I had a 15" Kicker L7 (2000/1000rms), how much of a difference would I experience between a 2000/1200rms class D amp and a 1500/1500rms class AB amp?

if i had a 1000RMS sub and had a choice between a 1200RMS class D or a 1500RMS class AB, i would definately go witht he class D

I'd go class AB much cleaner sound...but needs more battery...due to current draw

I don't think "clean sound" really means too much when you have a square subwoofer in teh trunk of your car.

Get the class D. It's more efficient and you'll never hear the difference.

if its used to power your subs, you won't notice the difference. so go with class D.

I can tell the difference in the two...with class AB you'll get more detailed and less muddy sound in the bass....a more solid bass ....and actually get a little louder on less power due to lack of distortion....

I dunno about this.

But class AB are a LOT less effecient than Class D.

Try to compare an old Soundstream to a new one...there was a thread on this a while back...a guy tried to update his Soundstream 10.0 I believes was the model to a newer Soundstream class D..rated with more power...He went back to the old school Soundstream...and stated everything I have....there is a big difference over SQ bass and garbage //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif bass

Yes, there is. You wouldn't put square speakers behind a bulkhead in your car if the goal was SQ though.

I tried class D 8-9 years ago then went back to AB. I tried it again this year then went back to AB not unless there is a huge leap in SQ gain on class D i will never switch again. current hogs yes but who cares just get a bigger alt and some ship batteries. my subs amps are only 69% efficient but sound SOOO nice to me at least. better than hifonics or even an alpine i tried out. just gotta find some new subs.
