Class A/B or D for subwoofers?

Class D is perfectly fine. You'd never hear a difference, and at the power levels typically used the class D will likely be more efficient.
As usual I agree. Where an a/b amp would be better for mids and highs, the class Ds efficency will be better then the a/b and better suited for sub duty. Also Class D amps have a bad roll off at higher frequencies, which is why you hardly ever see D multi channel amps for anything other then sub duties.
