Circuit City Pays Up

There wasn't anything wrong with the wiring. The dealership made the consumer scared so that they could rake in big bucks off of him. CCity was basically involved in a 3rd party scam. The install was fine except for the radio not being very secure to the dash. The consumer drove the car for 15,000 miles before even saying anything and the installer was rushed by the consumer. I wouldn't have paid him jack shit. They were just worried this would turn into another McDonald's hot coffee ordeal.

I agree, good on Circuit City!
It does however bring up the thought(s) of just exactly how the head units are properly mounted into such a tight space in these import cars. I recall having these issues way back, and Alpine actually had a deck to address this problem (deck depth was less than normal).

So, you folks with imports, how do you get around this issue?

Best,

Mark
i have an eclipse avn 5435 double din in my 2005 civic with no clearance issues at all.

the pics i saw were like the AC unit ducts were cut and then taped over and on the youtube video his tweets he had installed were just sitting in there not mounted to anything. whether its just CC or not if you pay someone to do a job they are supposed to do it right. not **** it up just cause.

if you got something installed would yourun home and take it apart to make sure it was right? of course he drove without noticing why would he have noticed otherwise?

i could never understand how it came to 10k. i mean what was really messed up. all i saw was the speaker wires where cut becasue he wanted aftermarker speakers that dident work with stock connecters and they cut the harrness for the head unit. witch couldent cost that much or just leave the aftermarket headunit it.

The tweeters were hanging there because he took them out. He made a comment on how they were hot glued into place. I'm pretty sure he decided to test their ridgidity himself and broke them off. As for the heating duct? That's one expensive heating duct as that was the only thing the installer did wrong.

And yes, I would take my car apart if the install wasn't to my satisfaction, either that or take it back and make the claim immediately. Maybe before I even leave the store. I would certainly not wait 15,000 miles and almost 9 months later!

if i recall the story they were taking the HU out to put a different one in or something like that and he noticed the hack job. he didnt take it apart to check the install.

if you pay someone to do work on your car why would you take it apart to make sure they did it right? if you are going to do that why would you pay them to put it together in the first place is what im getting at.

i mean clearly they did some damage and they were at fault or else a giant company like that wouldnt of paid that kinda money to cover their ***. plain and simple. sure if it was an 88 civic or something i might just go there and complain or something but if someone hacked up my brand new car i just paid 20 grand for someones *** would be handed to them. i wouldnt just chalk it up to experience.

They didn't cut the harness for the head unit. They spliced into it. They consumer didn't want to wait for the proper harness to be ordered for his car, so they hardwired it. The factory harness was still in tact. He also got amplifiers with his speakers They cut the harness connector off so that they could screw the wires into the crossover terminals for his components. I still see nothing wrong with this install. Especially since it was rushed by the consumer.

have you dealt with big companies like this before personally. especially a company like CC that is dying right now. if it were that simple and it was the consumers fault CC would not of taken the blame on this. theres more to this story. there has to be.

The story was that he took it to another CCity to have an issue with radio reception looked at. The associate brought the cut heater duct to the customer's attention at that time. The associate of CCity suggested to the customer that he go to the dealer to get it fixed. The customer takes the advice and goes to the dealer. The dealer sees aftermarket stuff and proceeds to **** him in unneccessary parts and labor to "restore the car to a safe condition" (scare tactic). The customer is so scared that he follows the dealers advice. CCity takes the blame. The install was not bad. Not the best, but not bad for a rushed job. The only mistake that was made was cutting the heater duct. The other associate did not say anything was wrong with the install other than the heater duct. It was the dealer who said everything needed to be replaced only to drive cost up.

CCity did not deal with this situation. Their insurance company did. Sometimes the 10,000 is not worth the negative publicity. It doesn't mean they're at fault. They just don't want to be put in the middle of litigation.

So, according to the logic of you guys...if a patient tells a doctor to do a "rush job" and screws up...then the patient is not entitled to malpractice lawsuit?

I have done some financial work for a lawyer with a professor. He wanted it "rush-rush"...if he would have lost his case because we rushed and made an error, I bet a dollar he would have tried to sue us.

If a customer demands something that requires you to provide sub-standard or potentially harmful service you should guide the customer elsewhere. The fact that CC did the work ANYWAY makes the responsible. If "rush-rush" work is substandard, they shouldn't have done it.
