Christmas present speakers?

The usual story this time of year. My brother finally acknowledged his setup sucks. (See the note..)

So I decided now would be a good time to look for a replacement set of front coaxials. I have right around $50 to put on them, including shipping. They are going in a Ford F150 in the doors where they are muffled like hell by "protective cloth", and will get HU power.

Being this time of year there are a lot of sales and I have already sifted through PE, but I can't find anything. Does anyone have any sugguestions? Thanks.

NOTE:

Remember the JVC "Bronzies" I gave a little praise to last year? Turns out the moment you get them broken in the surround will wear tears in itself. and the VC will stray off center. =\ Woo, scratchy weak midbass..

What year F-150? I found that same "protective cloth" on my door panels when I pulled them off to install my Alpines, so I took a knife to it and cut it off. Takes a while, but now I can see my speakers throught the grill in the door panel and the sound isn't muffled.

But for $50, options are limited.

Im getting Alpine Type S coaxials. Gonna ebay them though, so if your planning on buying from a store or somewhere it may cost you over the $50 budget. I have lsitened to a lot of speakers and for the price these sounds really clear to me. I like how you can turn the position of the tweeter as well.

I'll remember that. I'll recommend him cutting that stuff out. Thanks. He's got something like a 2000 to 2002. It's pretty new.

Remember how I said they sucked every time someone mentioned them ? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
Yeah, I do! But they really did sound good right at first! Ah well. Live and learn.

I'm off to check out SoundDomain, maybe egay.

Im not sure what size coaxials the F150 has, but I saw Jack Frost had some nice coaxials for pretty cheap in the classifieds a few days ago. I think they were ~50.

You should have looked at my repeated ads for Boston FX6 coaxials for $50 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

But alas, they're reserved for someone else //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Ok, I PM-ed Jack, yeah, they're sold. =\ Ahh well, didn't need 'em until now. I saw them before, but again, no need.

Just for the record, the 2000/2002 era Ford F150 uses 6.5" speakers in the front and 5x7s in the back. I know this for a fact because I've pulled them out of my brother's truck. Sounddomain brought up quite a selection. Clarion and Kicker to name a few. I might end up buying from them again.

If you pulled 6.5 inch round speakers out of a 00-02 F150 then they werent stock.

In the pre 97 models they had 6.5's in the front and 5x7's in back, but ever since then they've used 5x7's all around. (exclude the 04+, some of them have stock 6.5 components)

But trust me-those 6.5's you pulled out cant be stock. And hell, you gonna cut the doors some to even get 6.5's to fit.

Now that you mention it, there was some serious body work on the truck's doors, but only the inside panels. The tabs to hold the door panels on were not stock, there were really expensive RCAs run (hidden and everything!), and 4 guage wiring in there as well. I can only guess the previous owner had comps and mounted the tweeters in the dash.

Sadly the previous owner did a better install than I could hope to do on my own. =(

Lol, yup, it takes a little bit of surgury to get 6.5's in there.

Of course, if its already nicely made up to hold 6.5's, it's prob easier just to get 6.5's and drop them in, instead of 5x7's and ripping out the stuff to hold some 5x7. Or worse yet, getting a pair of 5x7's and finding out there was so much work done to the doors, and that 5x7's wont even fit anymore. Cause like I said, it requires cutting some metal out.
