Something that is interesting is that people can argue for and against God. Science will never be able to prove whether there was or wasn't a God. Science explains the beginning as being created by the big bang. Religion states the the cause for the beginning of creation as God. Time will eventually prove whether there is or isn't a God. The interesting part is that the universe that we have is just as likely as any other possible universe. Much like religion science also has differing opinions. It appears there is little that is absolute in this realm. We are left with our own beliefs.

actually somee scientific streams explain teh beginning as resulting from teh "big Bang" some explain it as beginning from a series fo smaller bangs, eom don't have any bloody clue. We don't know, because no one was tehre to see it. Funny how that works, eh?

Anyways, I don't personally become offended when someone posts the link. I like this forum, I was chosen, along with 6 others to do a job, and I take it seriously. Posting those pics, or links is clearly against the written rules of the forum. You all clicked on a button labeled I have read and agree with the terms an conditions. You should know then that that is behaviour stricly forbidden on this forum. Deal with it.

Biblical genealogies has convincingly been shown to be in error as a guide for dating creation at 4004 BC.

 

The bible states that the solar system was created over 15 billion years ago and took almost 10 Billion years to Finnish. Your really need a strongs concordance when you read the bible. But we are lazey and take what the preacher says as truth instead of finding out for our selves. The bible even talks about dinosaurs. the KJV translates the Hebrew tanniyn as whale. The translation used in the NIV is creature but it also means a marine or land monster i.e. a sea serpent or dragon. The NASB translates it sea monster as does the RSV and Darby versions. Young’s Literal translation translates it simply as monster . Bet they never told you that in Sunday School or science class.

My feelings on the bible are that even if it was the "word of God", it was written by humans, and would therefore be an interpretation of His words. And since none of us (I'm guessing here) speak the language of the original bible, it has been translated (read: interpreted) at least once (often several times) into the version most of us would have read. So I don't consider the bible to be the most accurate historical record of events.

it wass originally recorded in aramaic. a cross between hebrew and arabic. I have read it in Aramaic, it is recorded as such as the Torah, one of the holy books of the Jewish People.

I see where you're coming from. I've actually heard that there are certain words that don't have an accurate interpretation in english from the bible. I figure if the bible is truely the word of God then God would make sure the key things that he wanted to get across would not be misinterpreted. But this is not fact but more an opinion on my part.

I LOVE THIS STUFF!!! this thread has blown up. with this thread being pretty new it shows me how offended people can get by others attacking their religion. so many posts in so little time. i would put money on it that there has been at least one person that has sat back reading all these posts and gotten so angry that they would have choked someone if they could have. its great to see how much good religion does. when i first saw this thread i thought it was someone wanting to show some dumbass thread from some christian forum. when i saw it was a link to a christian forum i said to myself"here we go again." so i started to flame on the guy. there is nothing wrong with that. hell, if someone can flame on someone because of their choice of stereo equipment then by god they have every right to flame on someone for posting a link to some relegious forum. at first i thought this thread shouldnt even be allowed to be here but after to reading some of these posts i have changed my mind. keep your opinions coming everyone!! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wacky.gif.cf4a48f9e6dfe9504ffd2c946fd2f340.gif heres a thought for ya. i think that we will only way we will be able to unite as people is to have some alien force come to try and take over earth. no other event will do. but the funny thing is that if they did come and we won then we would go back to our old ways. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wacky.gif.cf4a48f9e6dfe9504ffd2c946fd2f340.gif

I'm not really seeing any anger in the posts from people. I'm seeing inteligent debate, which surprises me considering how a lot of other threads of less contentious topics tend to go on here.

yes, i just read this entire thread in the last 10-15 minutes and i didn't get the least bit mad, sadened by some of the things said, suprised also but never angry. i think that this thread actually has some very good points and i believe that it should have been allowed to start in the first place no matter what, (if you dissagree what are your reasons for banning this thread), i say we keep up the debate, a lot of good COULD come from it and lets keep it rolling like it has been and stay mature, i was actually suprised how deep some of the thoughts on here were, obviously people are taking their time to post on here so everyone should continue being mature and at least hear what they have to say

I wasn’t offended by your post. It sounded like you said take this post some place else. But then gave your own opinion. Which doesn’t bother me one bit. I’m really surprised on the some of the thought that has gone into some of these posts people are really taking there time To post in a mature Fashion. Most of us any way.

Someone had posted that the only way to unite people is to have aliens come take over the planet. Another way is through extreme fear. Make the people conform to one system through fear. I'm not saying this is a good thing but it is a way to cause comformity. But for it to be worldwide a single belief would have to take over the world most likely through war and then using the fear tactic. But I would say most religions and athiests believe that one system of belief and lifestyle is not a good thing but rather a sign of a bad thing. It's a sign of no choice and no freedom which is what no person wants, including God. For in my opinion God Would not have created good and evil if he wanted there to be no freedom of choice. He wanted people to be able to make their own choice and that is why this debate lives on, some believe there is a God and some deny it. So when people attempt to force religion through persecution, or destroy a religion through persecution or fear I see it as wrong. I will admit both sides have persecuted and used fear. When I say both sides I mean religious and the non religious. One more thing I would like to say is I'm sorry for those of you that have come across contradicting churches that have destroyed your faith or have turned you away. Any church that is against you reading the bible because they say you won't understand it is suspicious. SOmething that is fun to do is when you hear someone say something that contradicts the bible that they supposedly base their religion on is to show them some verses that say the opposite.

Sadly the two are often intertwined throughout history. A highly religious government can be just as dangerous (often more so) than a highly fascist one. Take, for example, the Taliban of Afghanistan. This was one of the most repressive regimes in recorded history, yet claimed to be a pure "fundamentalist" government. The problem with such governments are that they typically follow a precise interpretation of a religion and thusly do not truly represent the views of all those who are governed under the regime, even if all the citizens are considered to be of the same religion (something that really doesn't occur anyway unless by force). The Roman Catholic Church was very strict for quite some time, and when King John(?) of England decided to break away from the RCC, it was partly because both he and his people felt it was no longer representative of their views. (of course, his desire to divorce his wife due to her inability to have children played a large part in this as well).

I'd like to avoid politics here while still discussing the subjects of religion and government as they relate to each other.
