~Choices of spl subs~

shame nick.. remember the laws of thermodynamics..
coil generates heat, heat flows through the metal topplate, toplate is bolted to, touching, and surrounded by... the basket //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

and whiles its a very moot point.. it'll still affect it.. every SO slightly.

BOOYAH!

whoopidy doooooo

granted flux is probably flowing the wrong way because of the nice big basket that's on the back of the motor..

aluminum is a conductor..and is still metal you know //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif hrm what does this remind you of - a CSX perhaps? cough cough

:readytogo

ok it's 1 degree cooler because the basket touches the top plate in what 8 places.....happy now

HCCAfan, i would definetely conceide in this argument. Bigbassman has tremendous experience, just look at his accolades. Sometimes its just wiser to listen and learn instead of insisting your point. Granted there prolly are differences, his opinion is usually the one that is most correct. Just thought i would shed some light on the info.
nah.. it don't have to be like that.. Shanes a good guy, and knows his H2 rather well.. I was talking to him on AIM through this anyhow.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

and he'll never conceide.. ever.. no matter what I say //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

all aluminum baskets offer small amounts of heat dissapation... yawn //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
aluminum is an excellent conductor of electricity.. and heat.. quite obvious that giant basket would offer it..

wouldn't exactly call it a massive advantage.. by the time the basket offers a substantial effect, you'll be scraping the coil from the gap.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

since you know so much about the orion h2 you would also notice that your statement is somewhat inccorrect since the basket connects to plates between the 2 gaps and sucks the heat out.

as for the numbers i used to do, highest was a 163 tuned to 30 hertz burping at 40 hertz, 3 cubes per sub, 40 square inches or port per sub.

**** i would like to point out how off subject this thread got. Well, the article is lengthy and i didnt read it more than once, so i may have been mistaken. Im not here saying the H2 is the best sub in the world, but just a potent one. Obviously bigbassman is strongly against it, which is cool because we probably respect your opinion more than most other peoples. But for people like Holdaway to say its the loudest sub they ever tested, that kinda has to stick in some peoples minds //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/toast.gif.bc0657bf54b9ee653b6438524461341e.gif

somewhat incorrect? find it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

lets review what I put...

theres the post you quoted.. 100% correct..

theres the 2nd post I put..

coil generates heat, heat flows through the metal topplate, toplate is bolted to, touching, and surrounded by... the basket
now either thats 100% correct. or that motor is floating in mid air...

booyah

my problem with why i didnt score higher is because of my error on the pg 215ix xover, i had it set too low, and i was dropping at higher freqs. i will be loud at finals //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

ok..wait a second...easy terms

food for thought - Take a pot, put it on the stove, burner, bottom gets hot right?..then the sides..then the handles..

how long does it take the handles to heat up though?

the coil heats up, by the time the heat actually rises to the top plate...to where the basket is touching in the 8 places, that it actually starts making a difference - the coil has already went into thermal failure...and is now locked up

now you have a burnt moofer that the basket..never really helped enough to actually 'cool' the coil, the marketing hype just said it did //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

no, its not floating. lol. i am saying if you knew how much heat it did dissapate, you would be surprised. is it cooler than the coil, no. is the basket cooler than the dustcap after serious beating, no. the basket gets hotter than heck, kinda like all orion products that have aluminum in them, but not as bad as the hcca amps //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

but yes, they made this woofer pretty awesome.

guys guys guys, no one is gettin all upset, me and loyd just having fun, loyd asks me how my brahmas are and i ask him how his jbl's are, same story, just a different board //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

we arent fighting...just debating moofers

i think it's my 3rd job..i like disecting things //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

and I applaud shane.. he finally found out where the dual gap style designs originated.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
