~Choices of spl subs~

Ok here it is. In the latest issue of Car Stereo & Electronics. The testing was done by Vance Dickason and Eric Holdaway. As you all know, Eric Holdaway is very tight with Richard Clark and owns speaker warehouse in Mirimar Florida. He is also the guy who started building woofers with Lucie Peronia (SP?) who is the founder of JL Audio. So this guy knows his shit. p64 of the magazine states that with 1 watt the h2 12 hit 133.3. Pretty impressive. He even goes into saying how this is the loudest sub he has ever tested, and still sound great blah blah blah. Pick up the mag and check it out for yourself. Its the december issue. Oh and as for that guy only hitting 158 with that many 12s, somethin is messed up, cause HCCA fan hits high 160s with 4 15 H2s. Im sure there are other factors in that testing that affect it, but that is straight from the mag, so you guys decide for yourself

whoa, so two 15" H2s powered by 4000W would sound ear-shattering? (chest-hurting, vision blurred, etc.?)...

would they work for dailys? or are they specifically for short, competition use?

What kind of box was the h2 in? because i wont believe freeair that sub hit 133.3

ok, i just got done looking at the article... i believe you are partially correct.

the testors did get a 133 out of the H2, however it was not with 1 watt. they had 2 VR1000D's on the woofer. 2000 watts. however, the sensetivity rating is very good, upper 90's if i recall correctly. but i knew that 133 with 1 watt was too good to be true.

if you check out section labeled "installation" you can see where they mentioned the amps they used. i just scanned through it in the store, maybe if someone has the magazine they can see what type of enclosure was used. they did though, as you stated, declare the H2 the loudest woofer they have tested. but definitly not 133 at 1 watt.

while I didn't read the article, I am familiar with their test procedures..

they do in lab simulations with LEAP, and it does SPL estimates, then they do in car, with RMS power, or close to it..

so the 133 was either a leap generated "xmax + 15%" spec, or it was in car, headrest measurement, on a Linear X..

and furthermore.. after mocking up the data provided by Orion on their site, the H2 series of woofers have absolutely horrible efficiency...

the 12" dvc 4 ohm comes in at .16% (84.1 db 1w/1m)

the 15" dvc 4 ohm comes in at .28% (86.5db 1w/1m)

boo yah!

you'd be surprised how similiar they are...

and you would would be surprised about their differences too loyd, especially how they incorporate the basket into the motor design to help cooling //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

all aluminum baskets offer small amounts of heat dissapation... yawn //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

aluminum is an excellent conductor of electricity.. and heat.. quite obvious that giant basket would offer it..

wouldn't exactly call it a massive advantage.. by the time the basket offers a substantial effect, you'll be scraping the coil from the gap.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

me tinks some MMS might have something to do with efficiency..

i didnt know aluminum could bring heat away from a coil that is 2+ inches away...through an electromagnet at that

amazing

HCCAfan, i would definetely conceide in this argument. Bigbassman has tremendous experience, just look at his accolades. Sometimes its just wiser to listen and learn instead of insisting your point. Granted there prolly are differences, his opinion is usually the one that is most correct. Just thought i would shed some light on the info.

shame nick.. remember the laws of thermodynamics..

coil generates heat, heat flows through the metal topplate, toplate is bolted to, touching, and surrounded by... the basket //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

and whiles its a very moot point.. it'll still affect it.. every SO slightly.

BOOYAH!
