choice between two vehicles

The Chevy without a doubt. Why? Because its American muscle, thats why.

You remind me of a Ford salesman I met once. I was shopping Ford Rangers vs Toyota Tacomas and this sales guy kept pushing me to "Buy American" It was working, I was looking hard at the Ranger even though I liked the Taco better. Then I saw a "Made in Mexico" decal on the Ford. I went back to the Toy dealer and found out that the 04 Tacomas were built in Freemont, California. So I did what the Ford guy suggested and bought the American made truck. The Toyota.

If Ford made a truck that was as good as my Taco, I'd have bought it. BTW, I've personally owned 2 Rangers and 2 Tacomas.

Oh yeah, get the Tacoma.

Screw gas engines get yourself an 03-04 duramax or powerstroke for about the same price, more reliable then the foreign crap, keeps a good resale value and pretty good gasmilage compared to the gas trucks.

If your already considering used, why not look for a used Toyota? Believe me, a $500-$600 a month payment sucks when you are young.

Out of the Chevy or Toyota, my vote is for the Toyota.

Do not let them talk you into a 6 or 7 year note to get the payments where you want them. A note extended out that long is the biggest waste of $$. Even w/ good credit and a downpayment of around $2500 for a $25,000 vehicle, will put you at about a $475 or $500 payment. With 10% down, your monthly payment will normally run you 20% of the total.

Chevy has been having serious engine and ****** problems in the first 100,000 mi. you hit 150,000 and it's time for the bone yard. toyota has been building the most reliable vehicles on the road for over 20 years. everyone knows their engines run for several hundred without issues, and now they figured out how to get their bodies to outlast american companies. besides, the interior quality of a chevy is crap, the cheapest it can be. the toyota uses better materials. take them apart and it is instantly apparent who put more thought into it. do you want your truck to squeak down the road? gm is scraping by on patriotism and not build quality. you don't buy a gm cuz you want a good vehicle, you want the bowtie and you hate foreign cars. that doesn't make it a good decision, just a biased one. and resale... no freakin' contest - without a down payment you will never owe less than the truck is worth.

but who cares what we think? it's your money. opinions are like... well, you know.

Go with the 'yota. Seriously, those things never die. Ever. My aunt's Corolla has over 300K miles on it, still trucking. Sure, it's a clunker considering she's had 3 kids and now has like a 8 grandkids, but that thing is still running.

My dad has a 'yota too, he's about to push 200K and it runes fine. Light maintanence here and there. Uses it for work, I swear he beats the crap out of that thing.

But I must say, my mom's old Silverado lasted a long time. I think she put a little over 200k on it when she sold it. And then the Silverado after that one she put about 150k on it. And now she has an Avalanche, with like 30k =D

Also, my Ranger just broke 100k a few weeks ago. It's a 4 banger, so not that fast, but it gets like 25mpg, so it's fine with me...

So I think the key is that if you take care of your stuff, it will probably last no matter what it is. But if you have a 'yota, you don't have to take care of it and it'll still last //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

Hah a V6 Toyota is boring... that just reminds me of the tacoma I saw hauling a$$ down the road next to my house one day. Supercharged, with the TRD package, jacked up real high and on swampers. The thing was pretty beastly. Even a domestic enthusiast would have appreciated it.

Def the Tacoma. It will eat that Chevy alive off-road. Any gains you get in payload over the Tacoma will pail in comparison to the quality and performance you'll get from the Toyota. Resale value will be much higher on the Toyota as well. Hell, I would get a F150 before I'd get a **** Chevy Truck. This is coming from a Chevy guy btw. For HD work trucks, a Ford F250 6.0 Turbo Diesel will run circles around just about anything Chevy makes.

BTW..there is nothing neccesarily wrong with either of these, this is just my personal opinion after driving/hauling with about 12 diffrent models of trucks over the past 10 years, including the models listed above.

I would always pick the chevy but I am probably bias because I grew up with my dad owning chevy trucks and I have always loved the look of them (minus the newest body style which is horrid) but I can tell you that with most any car if you take care of it then it will last you 150k+ miles.

As others pointed out a lot of foreign auto parts are now made here and in the US (80% of my Scion is using parts made in canada) so the point of 'buying american' is really no longer as valid as it was in the past.

Anyway good luck and hope you get the chevy they are some nice trucks, when I don't have to drive 50 miles each way to work someday I will probably get one myself.

Pshhh but you guys missed the point of this all didnt you? You buy the chevy so you can sing Don Mclean.

So bye-bye, miss american pie.

Drove my chevy to the levee,

But the levee was dry.

And them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye

Singin’, "this’ll be the day that I die.

"this’ll be the day that I die."
