Checking the condition of a subwoofer?

Is there anyway to check the condition of a subwoofer by looking at it?

i currently have a JLw6v2 and i plan on getting a 2nd one soon.

But the first one, i've been using it for about 2 yrs now.

and i dont want it going out soon on me or anything...

throw the DMM on the coil(s), read the resistance (Ohms).

Just by looking at the sub, if the suspension is starting to sag, that's not a good thing.

im curious on this as well, how do you test with a dmm? ive got 2 10s i need to check at home, what settings, etc do i need to look at?

red to red, black to black

Set the meter to Resistance (Ohms) (Omega symbol)

It should read a few tenths of an ohm below nominal impedance.

a 4 ohm sub is usually 3.3 to 3.8 ohms at rest if not blown.

haha....no. While the sub is disconnected. Probe it at the speakers terminals.

Aight, just hooked the mm up. On the mm, it has 2 ohm settings, one that is RX10 and the other is RX1K. When on the RX10, I get a reading of 1 ohm on a SVC 4 ohm type r, so I am guessing that is bad, right? Thanks, don't mean to hijack a thread, but dont see any point in making a duplicate.
