Check Out The Beast That I Got To Day?

Well If it makes you feel better Bab's .. Here's a little of my personal ORION\audio history and seeing \ using ORION equipment.

First Subwoofers I ever owned was the Original LANZAR's 15" subs forgot the model though, and they sounded great! One day I came acrossed someone who was hard up for cash at a pawn shop and couldnt pawn the subs without showing they worked. They were knew looking good condition Orion XTR 15's in a sealed box. "THE ORIGINAL ORION COMPANY before selling out to DEI". Those subwoofer's offered me 3 good years of service and I abused them with way to much power, and they took every single bit of it. I went from the sealed enclosure they were in and researched on this forum how to build a ported box and thus began my love for ported\tuned enclosures. The subs then really came alive, but time's got hard and I had my first born, and couldnt really listen to them anymore and sold them for a ridiculous 150$ in the enclosure I built. Well I got an itch for a new set of subwoofer's about 2 years ago, and since I had such a great experiance with Orion I figured I would go to some shops and listen to the new Orion products " NOW OWNED AND MANUFACTURED BY DEI". Well Some of the negative's I was told is their companies customer service went down hill. I had a pocket full of cash on me and was determined to buy a pair of subwoofers. I listened to Kicker L7's ((AMAZING)) , I listened to a shop who primarily dealt in JL audio, and watched W-7's bang amazingly hard, but were too expensive per subwoofer. Then I went to a shop I saw advertising Orion product's and listened to a pair of Orion C series 12's off of a 600W chromed out D class mono amplifier. They were shaking things off the wall's and this was a good sized audio room. I heared a custom install one of the installer's put in his own vehicle with a pair of 12" Orion P series ((BEFORE THE HP's came out)). In his car those sub's bass'ed so hard my wife said our mirror's were moving on our car 8 feet away. So I wanted those **** subwoofers so bad I couldnt see straight but that shop sold them for 300$ a peice + 100$ for the box. I ebayed a pair of 10" Orion P series Subwoofer's ((The one's with 17mm xmax)) , and ebayed from a saler named "Justonemoreamp" an 800Wrms@11volt Old school Orion HCCA 250R. I built a ported enclosure tuned to 34hz, and the head unit was a Pioneer color screen DEH 7800MP. The vehicle I installed them was my 1994 GMC 2500 VANDURA! Their all the way in the back of my van, and needless to say of the experiances where people thought I had 15"s. One thing that came to mind was the settle of years of arguments between my cousins who dont know jack about audio. I'm just a novice but took time to understand the science from the experianced people from this site, and my subs using a cheapy little wal-mart DB meter hit more than the meter can actually measure. At a family get together all of us were bass'ing out, and I shut their mouths about this sub's better than that sub, and boxes dont matter , and all the B*** that ignorant steriotypical audio owners tend to think when no one could hit harder than those pair of 10"s. My cousins 4 pair of 10"s and two amplifier's (sealed boxes) Visonik's did 124Db's and just couldnt beleive that in my van sitting nearly 12ft from the rear that my two Orion 10's hit as hard as they do. To make matter's have more humility at the family gathering at my aunts house... when I started bass'ing her kitchen hang light kept going on and off. I guess I was resonating the filament in the light bulb LOL I will neevr forget them coming out and gripeing at us for that! I still have the subwoofer's and they sit there in my van unused because GAS cost alot when you drive a 350 4 barrel v-8 lol, but when I get in it and bass it amazes me all over again. All I can say to you is that I soon will be doing a single subwoofer setup with an orion HCCA. They dont cost a 1000$ and they can move stuff, but you need to listen to these people on this forum who know what their doing in regards to a box!!!! I had my cousin build my box for these 10's and I just gave him the spec's .. I paid him 50$ to build my box to my specs (schematic) I gave , and when he was done that day two boxes were built to the specs Orion had suggested. First was a small sealed enclosure.. We bassed in it with 3 other cousins and some friends who tagged along and everyone was just amazed. After wasting a day away, the next day we built the ported enclosure that was making my aunts lights flicker on and off, and no one that was there that day upon installing those subs from a sealed box to that ported box will forget the difference it made. I think I made true ported enclosure fans that day, and even though they knew not what a frequency tuned box was about they saw that building a box to specs made that cheap walmart meter go from hitting 126.3 db's from the sealed enclosure to maxxing the meter out and to this day I dont know exactly what their hitting!!! BUT IT FEEEEELS HARD!!

So good luck man, dont feel that you made a bad purchase those Orion's owned by DEI for all we know DEI may have kept the same engineers that ORION was paying to keep a solid line going. For the price you paid vrs other subs and to know snooop dan did 148.## in an enclosure not even designed for the subs's makes you wonder what they would have done in a properly built enclosure. Oh and if you understand .. they did 148.## at a such a low low frequency that most people who at one point spoke negative about the driver. May have well gave some credit to the monster you now bestow and hopefully you will make a good example as to why people should buy that same woofer you have now!
